I have read so many of your posts since i first started here ... but when i looked at your folding stats today i see there is nothing since aug or so.

I hope things are ok with you ... but I am guessing that since you are in Georgia that Katrina hit you.

Hopefully recovery is in sight for you and family and neighbours.

ps ... and the folding farm too of course!

Silver lives near Atlanta. Katrina didn't get him or anybody else in Georgia that I'm aware of. I think he quit during the QMD debacle when they suspended them.

It appears things have been shut down until the next version of the client is released. To quote Silver;

Second that however I am inclined to pull the plug now as well till things get fixed. Tired of sending units in and getting no credit. The Celly is folding a QMD in 24 hours but stanford won't give it to the celly. Had to down load them to the p4 then move them to the celly and return them to the p4 to send in. The a64 should have had qmds a while back, why are we still waiting? why do I have to move units from p4s to a64s in order to get optimum production? As for the ability to use the systems effectively for other things, well we know that is not so. I'm still folding as of this minute, however I am really not convinced of the integrity of the people running this project. Efficiency seems to be the last thing on their minds and our cpu cycles, parts and time, paid for by us and our families are not theirs to waste. If they can not use our resources effectively then why should we let them be used? If there is a single big folder on team 32 who stops in protest then I too will pull the plug. It seems that the only really effective way to get their attention and to ultimately increase their results and thereby the intent of the program is to make a stand. It would appear that Stanford is unwilling, does not have the time, is lacking in expertise or just does not have the funding to provide how many free cycles to aid in its' research. This is an intolerable situation given the amount of money spent by the members that are folding to help what we percieve as mankind.
Though it is a ruthless means, if there is enough of a drop, Stanford will immediately address the situation or have to concede that our contributions are of little interest to them and our efforts would be better served elsewhere.

Thanks for the link Mac!!!

I have been toying with getting a folding/borgin community with my fellow employees at work ... with 20,000+ employees there is some potential leverage.

However, before I put my credibility on the line I am going to look into this a lot more.

I have the Canadian/US issues to deal with although I have not found a more deserving (or so I thought) DC cause. I don't really want to get into national cause issues since in my mind it is for mankind.

But if Stanford has gotten lackadaisical about this and the means are now more important than the ends, then I will have to keep searching before I find another cause to sign other people up for.

In the meantime, I am still folding for the CAUSE!.

We all have our own personal reasons for folding. Keep in mind it is not that the Pande Group has to bend over backwards for the donators, they really do have MUCH to contend with. It's a tightrope to walk. I've been through my fair share of DC projects, and folding is the cream of the crop, in my opinion. Communication is key, and I think they are doing a lot more since the RAM issue came up with QMDs to keep everyone informed and working harder to help nix potential issues before they become real problems. I'm sure others disagree, but that is just my opinion.

Thanks

I like to keep a balanced view of things ... which means i also need to test where the balance is.

Had to think about this one for a few minutes. Financially my wife and I found ourselves in somewhat of a pickle. Being unemployed does seem to put one in that situation. The timing was coincidental though. I was disgruntled at the time and when finances dried up I pulled the plug. Zero to 70g in a day has changed the picture somewhat. Presently employed as a regional manager for a hotel chain. I am bringing a couple of the machines back on line. One 754, the P4 and the Celly. Should be good for around 1200 PPD or so. We shall see how it goes before I bring the xeons and other 754 back up. My best to all. :)

Yeah, that would surely go over big with management, huh? ;)

Glad to see things are looking up for you, Silver. I went through a period like you back in 1992 and it was rough, but I got back to work and everything worked out fine. About a month after work dried up for me then, my daughter was born by emergency C-section, which really piled the bills on with no money coming in and no insurance. :drool:
