I play mad Counter Strike and whats the best OS to get the best performance...

When I installed the new drivers for either Win2k or Win XP it would launch the game and then the screen would turn black...

I'm currently on Win 98 FE(I think it's the best gaming OS ever) :D

I think winXP is better or = to 98se

you should notice a difference in playing CS as you can only get 99fps max and the textures are OLD!!!!!!!

that game has to be the oldest but most funnest/popular game there is=]

i like the way 3d applications run under w2k better than W98SE. ive tried only both with intensive 3d games and W98SE actually scored higher in 3dmark2k - about 250.
under W2000 pro the textures seem to be rendered a lot more smoothly! i beleive thats because W2k works far better with AGP. the games seem to be running even faster than under W98.
the only modification i made was the DirectX version. i only play Need for speed - Porsche Unleashed which demands directx7. when directx 8 was installed in W98 3dmark2k scored worst; now i get better score from it with directx 8 installed:

W98SE +directx 7 / 3dmark2k score about 5400
W2K Pro +directx 8 / 3dmark2k score about 5200

i dont know HOW WRONG YOU are.....
if after almost 2 years the game is still one of the most popular FPS.... i think they must have done something right.

Playin since beta 1.1 OH YEAH!!!
CS was the best in beta 4 - beta 5

Well...You get better frame rates in Win98 but I sure like the stablity of Win2K. I dual booted for a while and ended up just with Win2K. My system is more than fast enough to play any game out there (most games really are writting for P400 equipment) so I can give up the 10% fps that Win2K takes and still have tons of head room for game play. In the long run stable game play is more inportant that getting the last FPS out of your system.

i got a question for you all.....
If the human eye can only see 30FPS
You monitor can only draw X FPS (60Hz= 60 frames 75Hz=75 frames ect)
what is the point of running a game at 200 FPS that never drops under 170 FPS?

So needless to say I am with ve6jhc on this subjectm I'll lose a few frames that my eyes cant see anyways and go with the NT operating (NT/2K/XP) systems for the extra stability

Nope! OP4 ownz joo, and joo and joo! (man thats silly) You can almost fall asleep playing CS waiting for the next round to start. Not very exciting at all. I never understood what all the hype was about. I believe return to castle wolfenstein will rule all when it's released!

Beta 5.2 was the best. After that, it was too slow. And by Beta 7 I was phasing out of the CS world for something faster. And the answer to that was Rocket Arena 3. Now thats a game that takes SKILL!

i think image quality is another good reason to lose some few FPS.

beta 6.1-7.0 had to be the best after that valve bought it and it hasnt been the same since=[

I play worse with better image quality just because Im looking at the graphics more thin the people shooting at me:(

go for win2K/XP... better with games I'm playing ( no more framing stuff on D2 )... games are not all about FPS anymore... ( does 200FPS on CS or Q3:A helps you on not being fragged? Its the player not the FPS.... )

tribes is best game ever.. tribes one not 2.. but my opinion is somewhat biased.. my comp is tooo crappy to play anything that is more demanding than tribes 1..

Way to make some of us feel really old there bud...
=P
Been playing CS since 1.1 as well, Ahhh those were the days....
But as for old, Doom2... "Shoot the pixel! That's a bad guy!!!"
Aside from that, my main entry into multi-play fps was Quake II, particularly CTF. I liked the "teamplay" aspect of CTF, hence why CS was the natural next step. My new found game is "Operation Flashpoint". If you're the Quake III Arena/ Unreal Tournament type person, this game is definately not for you. If you want the feeling of doing a jungle creep, aren't bothered by "camping", like HUGE maps, and want a taste of somethig a little more realistic than CS. I suggest you check it out.
