hi, i created a partition yesterday and installed XP on it with just BF2, no other programs, i want this operating system just for bf2, it ran hell of alot smoother then running my default OS, me likes!

So what wondering is... xp has alot of crap that i dont really need, keep in mind im just using this OS for bf2 only, do i really need SP2? ... do u think it would better to install winXp HOME?

also what and how do i remove things from XP?
for instance... internet explorer... im not gonna use it, so why is it there?
im sure there alot of things that can removed and i think by doing this will improve system performance for BF2.

Any advice/help appreciated

thanks, darren

edit: basically all i want to know is... what XP compoments do i just need for bf2? ... nothing else is gonna take place on the os... just BF2.

Well, there are many services with XP that you probably won't use since you are just using that OS for BF2 but as for removing IE, I wouldn't try it. It so integrated into windows and it acts as the shell that removing it usually just causes lots of trouble. However, I remember something for win9x that called IEradictor or something like that that would remove IE though I never tried it. I am not sure if that would work for XP.

As for installing SP2, I would install just for security sake, it has a lot of security updates in it and will stop you from getting some nasty worms.

Here is a list of what most of the services do in XP that will help you check if you need them.

EDIT: that site that I listed also has a special column for what services are usually still needed for gaming, you can probably use that as a guideline
