I just finished hacking up my PSU with a dremel with the goal of increasing my air flow through it.

My idea was to completely cut out some of the slits that let air in and mount a good 60 mm fan blowing into the PSU through the new hole. I have noticed that high quality PSUs have 2 fans, so why not my cheapy? And since the PSU is at the top of my case, the additional air that is blown out will be the warm air that has risen.

It seems to have worked well. I can tell that the air flow is greater out the back (I also cut out the metal on the back of the PSU in front of the fan to increase flow).

I have noticed no added noise, and it may even be a bit quieter.

I did this mod as well. I mounted a cheapie 4" fan on the bottom of the PSU that sits right over top of my CPU and I mounted another fan on the front of the PSU that draws air off the HDs. I did notice that the air coming out the back of my PSU was alot hotter than before....I guess that's a good thing as it means that I am removing more hot air from my case.

So far today, I am getting no real benefit in case temp. However, the CPU is cooler by 1-3 degrees.

Also, the air coming out the back of my PSU feels a lot cooler, because there is just so much more air flowing!
