View Full Version : Temperature issues with A7V266
Having purchased an A7V266 a month or so ago, I have to say I'm pleased with its performance. However, I have always had rather high temperatures.
I use an Athlon 1.4 TB, and I had on the CPU a Globalwin FOP32-1 cooler. This gave me temperatures of 52C idle, 56-60C full load.
I sampled a different motherboard today, an Abit KT7A RAID. It, with the same cooler, gave temps of 36C max.
With a Thermaltake ORB in my own motherboard again, I get the same temps as before.
Is anyone else experiencing high temps with this motherboard, and should I just take the readings with a pinch of salt?

Both of these motherboards have always had temperature monitor problems. Whereas the A7V series has always read temps about 10-15C too high, the KT7 series has traditionally read about 5C or so low. In real life, it seems that you're sitting about 40-43C. If an AMD motherboard maker has come out with a good temp reading system, I have yet to hear about it.
Thanks very much for the info.
Just wondering, could you give me some quantification of what you say?
Like, where did you hear about these temp issues, and could you possibly link me with reliable articles explaining it?
I don't mean disrespect by this, I just need to learn more.

I've owned two A7V series boards - an old A7V and a newer A7V133. I've checked this with separate thermal diodes placed next to the CPU die, and compared the readings. Good stuff. I'll dig up some links to articles if I can find them, too. I remember the panic I threw myself into when my Thunderbird 800 ran only 35 in my friend's KT7. I got it home and tried it, and it ran 49 right after bootup....I was like "holy crap!" I must've reseated that FOP-32 twenty times (without chipping the core!)! :D
I had to check this myself, so I bought a thermal sensor to check. You can get this kind of stuff at electronics stores.

so since my cpu reads 46C right now does that mean my temp is only like 36 or 31C??!! COOL!!
Well I've ended up with a new heatsink in there.
In building a rig for a friend we discovered his Thermaltake ORB wouldn't fit, so I gave him my FOP32-1.
I'm hoping my temps don't go up further now I've got an ORB.
Thanks for the information again. I await the links to these articles you mention ;)

Well, here (http://www.overclockers.com/tips443/) is a way to get goot temps with your KT7a, and here (http://www.overclockers.com/tips507/) is the reason that insocket thermistors really aren't very good, anyway.

Just posted this and then spotted your Question , so if what has been posted so far on your problems with temps , i think it would make mine to cold dont you agree but a nice thought all the same .
Just thought id post as im well pleased with my new fan on my SK6 sat on my A7V-266 With Thunderbird 1.4 Ghz .
I Purchased an SK6 HSF When i built this system a few months ago , i was a little concerned with my cpu temps at 49c idle and 56c load with a room temp of 20c . but after looking at many posts my temps seemed very good in comparison to others with the same system as mine , one report where a stand alone probe had been placed on the side of the 1.4Ghzcpu on the A7V266 reported a 6-7c drop from what asus probe was reporting which made me feel alot better but not 100% convinced .
By the way the fan that came with my SK6 was a Y.S.Tech that spun at 3450rpm .
Today being a very good day i went out and purchased a delta fan that spins at 6800 noisey i had been warned but not anywhere near as bad as i thought it would be , The Good news is Or should i say the great news is My Cpu Temps are now wonderfully exceptable with an Idle temp of 42C And Load temp of 46C and room temp of 20c
Now if you took into account Asus probes are normally inflated by 5-7c That means ive got a very cool system Wouldnt you agree
Now my Main Question is are there any better fans , performance wise that i could purchase for this SK6 .

I've got a a7v266 that's giving me funny temp values, offering more mistrust of onboard sensors:
CPU: TBird 1.4
HSF: Thermalright SK-6 w/ 80mm Sunon Super High Output 50.6 cfm
Mobo: Asus a7v266
Case: Antec SX635
Ambient: 27C
Case Sensor: 29C
CPU Sensor: 50C idle / 57C load
Btw, the 80mm 50 cfm fan on the SK-6 lowered my CPU temps by 2C (compared to 60mm YSTech 40 cfm) and made my PC much quieter. I used one big clamp and one small clamp with corners under clamps and used twisty ties to hold the clamps together.
