ok. i'm about ready to order parts for this new computer. theres so much hsf to choose from now. i've read reviews and reviews and reviews about a lot of hsfs and cant decide on which one to install.. my only thing is that its easy to install and decent cooling. i've narrowed my list to these three
swiftech MCX370
Akasa Silver Mountain
Gladiator
so which of these are better.? i have a swifty mc370 on my tbird 1.33 now and its good. the mcx is a revision of the mc. does anyone have any experience with the silver mountain? i've read that its a pretty good cooler from cluboc, the gladiator is good bang for the buck.
thanks for the inputs. feel free to add more canidates. (except for the new alpha or the swiftech 462.. dotn want to mess with it that much now.)
I would heartily recommend a fourth choice. The Dynatron DY1206BH-638. It kicks the SK-6 and Gladiators butts.
Hoots pick of the litter!

I would like to add two more candidates that you should take a look at and consider 1. The Millennium Glaciator II boasts great performance and is quiet. 2. The Thermalright SK6 with Delta black label second only to the Swiftech MC462A in performance. It is easy to mount and offers excellent cooling, yet some consider it on the loud side. I myself don't find it that loud and am very happy with the performance and ease of installation. Either of these HSF's will more than get the job done with good case cooling and allow some headroom for overclocking should you decide to do so. Have fun,

Glaciator II, no doubt.
Dropped my temps a good 5 degrees C, and is not loud at all.

I'll throw in a vote for the Gladiator. Easy on and off for those who like to remount often. Works for me anyway. With other moderate cooling mods, I sit at 8C over ambient. Don't know if that's good or bad, but it works. :)

Good question there. I don't know. I'm betting that XP will throw out loads of heat, so I don't know how it will behave. You might check the AMD CPUs section for an answer to this, also. There are a few of those floating around in there and surely someone is air cooling.

The Glaciator II is an awesome heatsink from my experience, it is of exceptionally good quality and works well due to great design rather than depending upon a noisey delta. It is most certainly up to the job of an 1800+
