Ok.....I've been reading thru the thread about raptor's in raid 0 and people are basically saying that the performance is about the same as a single one.

Well I have bought 2 SATA Maxtor 200GB 16MB drives. Does this apply to 7200 rpm drives as well. Or will I see a performance increase by putting them in raid 0.

If I put them in raid 0; I purchased a SIIG raid controller Dual Channel pci card. And yes I know its only 32bit. My board doesn't have on-board raid controller and I didn't have alot of money to spend hence no raptor's and I needed alot more space lol.

Anyways if there is someone who has experience with these drives and can let me know if this would be worth the time to have to reinstall my OS for raid or juss Ghost to 1 drive and forget about the raid.

Thanks in advance,

BalliN

I wouldn't mess with a RAID0 configuration in your case. You will find the drives fast when used singly, and notice only the most modest further gain if RAIDed.

Additionally, two 200GB volumes is more useful than a single 400GB one. You can nuke the boot drive and have 200GB of stuff saved intact should the current case start to resemble the worst case. You can set your swapfile to the second drive, improving virtual memory effectiveness. And if one drive fails, you don't lose the contents of the other. Unless you have special needs that strain the STR (sustained transfer rate) of one drive, RAID0 isn't really wise--and the STR of those Maxtors is pretty high.

Ok cool,

Thanks for all of your input Larva old friend :). I will go with the signal drive setup then.

Maybe next month I'll try to get one of those raptors for OS. Everyone seems to have such high favoritism towards them.

Thx again Larva,
