Ok folks who`s looking forward to these games and what do you think will be better?
I`ve seen a video of jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel playing Quake 4 it looks pretty good but i`m an UNreal tournament JUNKIE since like 1998 (my names °NK°Zerg!° of the Notorious Killaz clan) and for me UT has always been > Quake

game play wise it would be hard to say, UT2007 seems to be focused on bringing UT into a much more competive light than it was and striving to be the #1 for online fast action gaming, quake IV is basing itself on the master...quake3 - however close to quake3 it achieves will probably be quite a big deciding role.
graphics wise though, ut2007 hands down :)

Yer graphics wise quake 3 will use the Doom 3 graphics engine which sucks IMO :/ I would like it to be better than Quake 3 as i have this game and it just doesn`t compare to the then UT GOTY edition which still owns to this day

Quake will forever dominate Unreal in the singleplayer and multiplayer departments! Quake 3 was released with better gameplay then Unreal Tourney, hands down. UT focuses on pretty maps and unconventional design instead of gameplay basics, Unreal multiplayer is rarely released with more than 1 or 2 really good maps. Take UT2004 for instance, Torlan, practically the only map with anything going for it, is released in the demo so that everyone buys the retail game, then all the levels that come with the game suck! (besides mothership) Quake has been around for longer and will always put out a better game than Unreal, even if screenshots make you want to think different.
Why must epic constantly insist on humiliating themselves by releasing a game the same time ID does? The quake series has been the backbone of PC FPS's and epic needs to learn they can't win a head on battle against it.
The thing I get hung on is how come people can't enjoy both? It's like, you absolutely MUST like one better than the other or your corneas will melt down your face or something.
I'm sure they will both be great games, and I'm looking forward to playing them both when they are finally released.
I've never really understood the whole fanboy-on-or-the-other thing.

Graphics wise the U3 engine will cream the Doom3 engine, but in all fairness the Doom3 engine has been out for a while now where as the U3 engine is still in development. It's not really a fair comparison.

I have never played unreal 2004, or Quake. I plan to get Quake after I play fear a little while.

I like them both...but I think UT has more strategy and teamwork, and less fragomatic. That's good and bad though..great for clans...bad if you just want a quick 20 minute game and have to deal with dumbass teamates who frag you more than the other team

Damn straight yo.

I'll be getting both. I've played Quake 3 since it came out back in 1999, but in all honesty, I think the UT2k7 engine is better. I've never been into UT, I tried it once, I think UT2k3 and I didn't like it. I'll be giving UT2k7 a chance though.

i never liked quake 3 .. loved quake 2 though ..
and UT : GOTY edition is still the best game .. ut2k3 and 2k4 were HORRIBLE .. hopefully quake 4 multiplayer will be good ..
and i really hope they go back to ut goty edition type of play instead of ut2k4 style when they release ut 2k7

If you want to play it like the older type just get the user mods, but don't think there is as big of an online community with them.

Do you have the retail game or do you continue to play the demo that has been out for a couple of years? How can you not like Crossfire, Red Planet, Dawn, or Artic Stronghold.

I completly disagree and i have been playing quake since II and UT since Unreal tournament - i will enjoy BOTH and i think the UT engine will be great
Quake will look nice, but i think people have their doubts due to Doom III's constant repetative dark levels & characters.
i love many UT maps and Ut2004 maps - onslaught is awsome - personally i think UT has far better Multiplayer action / variety / game types over all then Quake ever has.
But that is personal opinion just as your is so to each their own!
I played UT2004 and it was great. At one point I got addicted to it, I was just interested in onsaught. I can't believe I spend 200hours playing it online. Looking forward for next genearation of UT
I played Quake III but I prefer UT

Quake 3 requires far more skill than UT2004.
Don't get me wrong... I'm a huge ut2004 1v1 fanboy... but tbh, quake 3 has so many more skillful players than unreal. You actually have to outaim people in order to beat them in 1v1 matches.
I think Q4's mp will deliver more than UT2007 (regardless of IGN's 82% review ~_~)

I loved Q3, but I like UT2004 even more. Both have thier pros and cons, and I still play both often. But IMO UT2007 will probably be better than Q4, although Q4 looks like it will be freaking sweet.
The reason more skilled people are playing Q3 is becuase it has been out longer. Q3 just got repetitive after awhile, where as UT2k4 had plenty more to offer.

imo, ut for the win.. been playing it for years, and will continue to play it for years.. the only disappointment i had was when i went out and bought 2k3 on the day it came out ($NZ139) and realised it was nothing like i had imagined it.. felt soooo sluggish compared to UT GOTYE, heck, even non GOTYE.. (but the shock sucked in non gotye, imo).. i just hope that 2k7 doesnt turn out to be another 2k3 LOL.. like UTgotye, gfx = meh, gameplay = leet, 2k3 gfx = woot, gameplay = meh.. now we have 2k7, gfx = omgwtfbshax, gameplay = ?? god im looking forward to it >_<

i remember back when q3 and ut2k were released (around the same time) and everyone was picking their camps.l as a mainly neutral observer (had a ****ty pc at the time, so couldnt play any fps'), i thought ut2k won that battle.
ut2k has died since then with the release of 2k3 and 2k4.
i'm not really a fan of straight up fps' like ut/q, but the vehicles + other stuff in 2k4 drew me in.

You mean UT (99 the original) right?

All the modern FPS look slow and "Noob-Friendly". Since im a big UT2004 fan, lets hope UT2007 dosn't half-ass the 1on1 maps like 2004 did (Only good maps are DM-Ironic, DM-Roughinery, DM-Rankin, DM-Lea, and DM-Subsystem) All the other maps are lame excuses for 1on1 maps, with terrible flow, poor spanws, and weapon placement is a joke. Quake 4 looks slower than Q2 / Q3, whats a competitive FPS without speed? I dont think these gamse are really comparable, they are like 6-8 months apart from each other in terms of release date.

Id say more people play UT99 competitively than UT2004. Tons of the older players (A few clanmates of mine) switched to UT99, ever since Enhanced Netcode came out with the Mutator UTcomp, its made UT2004 completely aimbased, whoever has the best hitscan wins. With the constant array of no-hitbugs (Deadon rockets / secondary flaks), I can imagine why they did.
BTW, if you want to play me in 1v1 or just mess around, my name is: 'DH'_efx'.

Nvidia vs ATI. ROFLMFAO.
I don't believe that its the same comparison. I can have both games installed at once but I am going to need two computers to have an ATI $ Nvidia card at once.... which would not be too bad. So with the vid cards you have to choose one or the other but with games you can go "install crazy".
But back to the subject, I have seen the demos and find that the quake4 gameplay is at the same speed as the doom3 gameplay. I really love the intensity of quake3 and it looks like quake4 is a bit on the slow side like doom3. I am a huge fan of the original UT, and find the new releases make me end up opening up a new game of quake3:)
But I guess time will tell.
