1st) 1x512 and 1x1024 isnt dual channel and 2nd) the amount of ram you have isnt everything. you wanna make sure that you get some nice ram, if your overclocking, some ram that will get some high mhz, and if your not, get some low latency ram. i think most people would agree to get 2x512 if you want fast fast ram, or 2x1024 if you want alot of ram and you play battlefield 2 and new upcoming games. to be honest, 2x512 is good enough, just make sure you get some good ram. look for 2-2-2 ratings

EDIT: for that pc your building right there, get 2 gigs of ram (2x1024). make sure you get low latency ram though

i know the single sticks aren't dual channel, i just threw them in there for comparison
all the ram is corsair xms extra low-latency w/ great timings
i heard that 4x 512 was faster than 2x 1024 so i am not sure what to get
or would 4x 1024  be best for Doom 3, Half-Life 2, and UT2K4

with the nforce 4 chipset its hard to get all 4 sticks with such low latency at 1t. sure, you could go to 2t but take a huge performance hit. i suppose i dont know much about it, i only know what i read. i know about 2x512.. whatever you decide would be fine.. you dont need more then 2 gigs for sure, and dont go less them 1 gig. get 2 sticks no matter what. other then that, its up for you to decide ;)

ok its either 4x 512 or 2x 1024, 4x 512 is supposedly a little faster

what were you saying about 1t and 2t?
