So i have a laptop that i use occasionally, and last night i popped in a DVD to watch in bed. i noticed that my computer was not finding the drive at all (which is weird because its always there. I played around for about 30 minutes, and it did not show up at all. I rebooted the computer, checked the BIOS, and saw nothing unusual. then, it sorta just showed up in my computer later in the day. now, when im going to watch a movie, its missing again. its not in my computer, or under my devices. the drive works and spins when i open it and put a disc in it, but windows thinks its not there. any ideas?

Loose cabling or optical drive that is going bad would be my guess. If you are under warranty its usually an very easy thing to have replaced.

There are 3 basics steps for this.
1. Reset the bios settings.
2. Reseat the optical drive and its connections(Yes laptop optical drives do have connections to the main board)
3. Reformat/Reinstall the operating system.(Usually only helpful if the registry setting have become corrupt)
If those don't fix the problem then you need a new optical drive.
