Do all desktop 478 mobos support the P4-M? Or, do only certain work with the mobile versions?

Doesn't anybody know? I mean, has anybody ever popped their P4-M in their desktop mobo and booted it?
There is a sticky for this if you want information. As far as I know, pentium-m have 479 pins not 478 so they wouldn't just be able to pop into any 478 boards.

No, not the Pentium M, the Pentium 4-M. Big difference. The P4-M has 512KB of L2, and a 400MHz FSB. NM, just found out it works on the Asus P4S800 series mobos.
Ahhh..Sorry, I didn't read carefully enough. My mistake.
Its called the search function and more Information.
Short Answer is: No
and...
Long Answer is: Whats Your Motherboard?
I'm a newb when it comes to Intel and I'd rather hear your recommendation than to to search or read the stickys.
Please recommend the fastes P4 mobile + mobo combo for a desktop under $500. I would be using it for a HTPC.
Thanks!

I think p4-Ms work in s478 mobos. I saw some posts, but forgot th forum name. You can use it but at low speed, like 1.8G only can operate at 1.2g at 400FSB, but you can increase FSB if your mobos have the options.

Why not a P-M setup?

Why not a P-M setup?
yes a P-m will eat a P4/P4-m alive in anything.

Oh, that's easy. I'm an Intel newb and I don't know the difference between a P-M, P4, and P4-M. If a P-M is better, I certainly appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.
So I will need the fastest CPU + mobo (on air / quiet) under $500 to go with my PC3200 memory, IDE drives, and 6600GT video card. Again, this will be for my HTPC so I will need it fairly quiet. I probably will use a couple 120mm fans for cooling.
The CPU + mobo in Daewood's sig look good to me. Any suggestions? Thanks

The reason I went with a P4-M setup is because I was looking at spending under $100 combined for the two parts plus the P4-M ocs like crazy. Because it has speedstep, the mobo drops the multi to 12x. From there, you can hit crazy speeds. For example, a 1.5GHz hits 2.4GHZ w/800MHz FSB with ease. I found out all my info here, it includes a list of compaitable mobos.

Meh that list is far from complete. I think he even mentions somewhere that P4-M's don't work in abit boards.
IC7-G MaxII and Max3
AI7(which is a IS7 with uguru)
They all work just fine with a mobile. DFI is not a board maker for you if want to get into for oc'ing mobiles though. There Intel bios's just suck and strap 100fsb to 132fsb max. Overclocker board my... you get the point. You have to pin mod for 200 which isn't for the faint of heart though.

Just remember with P-m you will need an adapter to run it in the asus boards... and my overclock is limited by my lack of droop mod on teh Asus board.
