I have a ViaAqua1300 pump, but it didn't come with any intructions, and since this is my first experience with WC I'm gonna be overly cautious and ask if it can just be submerged and the plugged in. Here's (http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_powerheads_pumps_viaaqua.asp?ast=&key=) the pump, and a pic too (http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/4060/000013tw.jpg) cause I felt camera-happy.

Yes it is a submersible one. Do a google search and you are bound to find your answers.

from the site http://www.graystonecreations.com/acc.htm#va
The ViaAqua fountain pumps are made by Commodity Axis Inc. Over the last several years these have become one of the best selling submersible pumps for fountain making. The ViaAqua fountain pumps are sturdy water pumps that come with a one year warranty. These miniature submersible water pumps are perfect as a table top fountain pump, indoor fountain pump, or for any type of fountain making.

The ViaAqua pump is an adjustable flow, oil free, submersible pump that should not be run without being submerged in water.

Note SHOULD NOT be run without being submerged in water

Yep, mine ran for a year and a half submerged. It would still be running today if I hadn't bought a gooder bigger faster one. :D

Maybe I'll use it for a winter bong/humidifier.
