for some reason my celeron 766 restarts by itself quite often
it used to be quite hot but now i added new fans to it so i don;t think heat is the problem
anyone know why ?

Do you know what your temps are?
your Vcore?
and what are you doing when it reboots itself?

my temps are around 40c...
it restarts while normal surfing or word processing

Well, for just word crunchin' or surfing those are rather high temps for a Cellie. My 566 @ 1054 stays about 38c full load. what mobo ya on ??

your temps are fine. so that shouldnt be the problem
What kind of PSU do you use? (watts?)
added any new hardware?
How long has this been going on?
had a simular probe a few moths back....
IE 5.5 gave me the old reboot..
had to reinstall the OS (last resort).... was on 98 then
Think of any changes you may have made to the system.. could be software or hardware.. this could cause the problem....
Do you have any software to monitor your voltages? just want to make sure they are not low.

Nope, for doing a bunch of nothing that temp is too high. I have seen a number of people posting that temps in the 40c+ range make their Cellies get flaky. If he's hitting 40c just word processing, imagine what happens when he's gaming etc. Might need to bump up the voltage, but at 40c now it'll be a real prob.

Wouldnt think 40C would cause a problem....
my celeron doesnt get flaky till mid 50's....
but they do run best in the 20-30C range.
But i do agree that you would not want to bump the voltage when ideal temps are in the 40's

I guess that the 40'ish temps being too high may depend on how close to the edge your oc'ing. Mostly these were people like me, pushing my 566 to 1054. Mayhaps with a bit less of a radical oc it can handle the heat better.
hmmmm....
thats a little hot for idle...
and since it is already that hot raising the V will just make it hotter :/
What kinda hsf fan u got
Is that celeron overclocked(I hope it is)...
Because when I overclocked to 600 it would self-reboot itself when I open up seti and open out IE start surfing *REBOOTS*
I think it's teh heat...
I'd say your PSU can't take the strain.
Think about it - more fans added, PC is no longer stable? Must be the PSU aint good enuff to take the extra stress
Turn some fans off and see if all is well again :)
I think you memory is giving you trouble. What FSB are you running at? CAS 2 or 3? PCI+FSB or FSB only ?
My PC reboots itself when I'm running over 124MHz FSB / CAS2 / 4-way Interleave / Memory Ultra Fast BIOS setting (Soyo board). It's quite fast, bot reboots often.
