I just bought a Sapphire x800 pro card and installed it on Friday. I put it through 3Dmark03 quite a few times and its responded fine except once. What happened was that it just went to a black screen. My computer stayed on but it would not respond to any command except a hard reboot. At that point it restarted to windows fine.
Later today i was playing Doom 3 for awhile... a long while, once again without any problems. when I quit the game, however, it repeated this problem. I also had to do a hard reboot. This time, however windows wouldn't load. I then removed my cpu overclock and everything booted fine. I upped the vcore to 1.6v and the computer would then restart with my previous overclock. If I put vcore back to 1.575v and raised the AGP voltage from 1.55v to 1.60v it also appeared to boot ok. I have since put my settings back (including agp voltage and vcore) to my original settings and now everything is hunky dorey again. My AGP bus is fixed at 66 MHz and I am not overclocking the x800.
What's going on here? Is the new card taking more power (everything I've read says that this card use the same as my previous 9800 pro -- if not less http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/ati-powercons_5.html )? Could the card be defective? Should I adjust vcore? Should I adjust the AGP voltage? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
EDIT - I'm using the 5.9 Catalyst drivers. The only other thing that is different is I'm now running ATITool all the time. Any ideas?
