I am having trouble getting my gamepad to work. Anyone know the fix? I have tried the software but I get an error. I don't know what to do.

bump come on I know someone is using a game pad with win2k
yes, i use one for ut, first i hope you are using the latest drivers but, i dont use any i just let 2k auto detect it
2k has a cotnrol panel snapin called "gaming options" go here and remove anything that might exist, like the preset disfunctioal gamepad, then reboot ad go back and see if you are picked up,
ok if not picked up just go back to same place and pick add then select what you have. you should not need any driver installation under 2k, it should pick up, detect install right from that panel.
if not working this way let us know, but that should do it

Oh, I tried that in XP, using the rests of working win98 software for the gamepad, but...
Yes, I used add, selected Sidewinder Gamepad, and then it says it's disconnected.
I tried to plug/unplug it, but nothing, after reboot, it just disappears from the Hardware list...
Then I am not sure, I use the USB gamepad for XP and just plug it in and use no drivers and it is always detected fine.
Have you tried completely removing the 98 drivers, reboot then plug it in, then reboot with it plugged in then
Under the control panel | game controllers |add
add
4 button gamepad
and then detect
That should do it but may not, not sure.
If it's not USB are you running it off your sound cards game port or? Could need to check drivers there.
I can suggest that you pick up a USB version if you do not have one, I know that detects auto just fine. You can get um for very little, if you can find one used. Not much help, sorry

Well, thanks anyway, I tried adding it, but like I said in a different way: not directly from control panel, but from specific software for gamepad (the one for 98 Win).
Guess using 98 or getting usb version is the only way out:(
