I am forced to use it on my college academic network. You are better off using Spyware Doctor or Adaware or Spybot.

If you ask me, it is a great program. Link it with Ad-Aware, Spybot, and HijackThis, and it is a superweapon against Spyware/Adware.

I use it. Personally I think its the best out there. It aways runs in the background and alearts you when spyware or whatever is trying to install. Pretty good program if you ask me

i dont trust it alone

Uncle had it - installed S&D - found many many spyware MS beta didnt - u can not trust just one program these days - you SHOULD have @ least 2 min.

Spyware Blaster doesnt let any spyware install period.

i think between Opera and S&D i have nt had anything - with FireFox i would get the odd thing, but thus far with opera - NADDA.

I completely recommend against using it. First off, it seems more like a search engine to find P2P software on your PC...and we all know microsoft's track record with phone-home functions...

Secondly, it can do funny things with the XP Firewall & ICS service...it's a known issue but can cause a lot of problems.

Ditto...I use it and adaware on my other rig and adaware always finds something, but I have never found ANYTHING using MS's program. Maybe it is just me. I hear TONS of people saying MS's program is great.

I use it & really like it a lot.

I use it with Kerio, ZoneAlarm, & Norton Corp. Anti Vir.

it's a counter-spy look alike and i'm not kidding. only thing different are some of the icons and the color scheme. still a damn good program though.

That's funny...I used to work at a computer repair shop...every system we'd build new or re-install the OS for we'd throw on Adaware, Spybot S&D, and Spyware Blaster on...

It never took long for many to come back loaded with every kind of spyware under the sun...yet there was ol' trusy Spyware blaster running like it "should" ...

I never understood why we installed it...

I also really like it. It dosen't seem to be quite as good as AdAware or Spybot in the scanning aspect, but the realtime stuff is awesome (especially on my family's system which I can't exactly come over to repair every day :D). I highly reccomend it.

Those are usually because those are the people who click "YES" on download anythin and all the pop=ups that come in, Spyware programs can only block so much.

No program should ever block a user from executing code that the user wants to execute...whether it's bad or not. :)

It is amazing that in this day and age we still have problems with people saying "Yeah, I'll execute that!"

It is the best there is for anti-spyware software. It has great real-time protection and has the best detection rate. Of course, as already said, it won't catch everything. So it may be a good idea to use MS's along with Ad-aware.

Adware by Lavasoft, very good and free.

Good point, Cap'n Newbie.

Hmmm, I use Ad Aware and Spybot S&D. I think they're pretty good, but the real-time protection is lacking. That would be the major difference here, in my mind.

Is the beta free? If so, then it's certainly worth a shot. -- Paul

you know it is a beta, but there were some bench marks done and lavasoft ad-aware did find more then Microsft Anti-spyware beta but there were some spyware that ad-aware didnt find where MS Anti-spyware did I agree with some of u that it is not ready to be used by it self but its not that bad.

I dont think it has the best detection rate by FAR - i think it lacks alot. Also MS has been know to down certain programs that were previously "spyware" to not spyware... then it ends up MS is working with that company or has some association.

Personally i would not trust MS spyware %100 who knows what they choose to let through so they can get the info they want from you.

Wow, I used to use the Giant Anti-Spy and Microsoft hasn't changed anything it looks identical to it and Giant Anti-Spy was a pretty good program IMO. Microsoft really is a beast, they want it and they take it end of story :burn:

Don't worry, Microsoft didn't make Microsoft Antispyware. They just waited untill some company (Giant) had a nearly-complete version and then bought the company. :p:
I guess that's why it's a pretty good program.
