First of all what is DLL?
My OE 5.0 has not been working recently. Whenever i try to load up the program i get a few seconds of background working shown by that little hourglass next to the mouse pointer and thats it. Nothing else happens. I thought reinstallation would fix the problem but once the program has finished copying of the W98 disk i get an error message for each DLL file saying its corrupt. Whats wrong? Can i fix it? Please help!

"In computers, a dynamic link library (DLL) is a collection of small programs, any of which can be called when needed by a larger program that is running in the computer. The small program that lets the larger program communicate with a specific device such as a printer or scanner is often packaged as a DLL program (usually referred to as a DLL file). "

OK so now i know what DLL is but dont suppose any1 knows whats happening to OE? Could it be because i was defragging my harddrive and my computer froze so i had to reboot?
i dont know what OE is but you should try to replace the corrupt/listed dll(s) individually aas a first step if reinstal did not work

OE as in Outlook Express. The only way to install the files is off the Win98 disk. I cant seem to locate the files. Its a big disk! Is there anyway of seeing what files have conflicts or associated with the wrong progams? This is starting to annoy!
ok try going to this link read and download and then reinstal

you could also do like an update to oe from the ms site i think this would also repair

OK i re-installed outlook express. and it runs. but a few things...
1) it installed to C:\Program Files\OUTLOO~1 instead of outlook express
2) i think (1) might of effected it. When i try and download the hotmail folders it wont work. And everytime i start up it aks if i want to make it my default mail server so i click ok yet it still does it. (i overcame this problem by setting is as default myself but it should of done it when it asked!)
Any thoughts?

Try running System File Checker. Put your Windows CD in, and click start>run then type sfc
If it finds any files altered or missing, tell it to restore them from the CD. You may have to tell it what folders to check.
