Ok I have an older Slot A Athlon 850 coming tomorrow. That and a Gigabyte GA-7AIXE motherboard. Also on the old side (no AGP 4x even...)
First off, how do I get the case off the Athlon. Second, do I need one of those Goldfinger things to overclock it.
I'm not shooting for any records here. All I want is for this thing to hit 1 Ghz. That's all. The motherboard will only let me got to 950 by adjusting FSB so I need to up the multiplier. Is this possible on the Slot A Athlons?

Yes, it's possible to change the multiplier on those, I read an article on toms hardware and he showed how to OC it by moving around some if those miniature SMD resisters on the PCB of the athlon, I had my 500 running at 700 but I got a little overzealous and I made it a keychain after I was removing the clamps underneath the cover (too OC it more) and my screwdriver slipped and I accidently tore off a couple surface mounted chips and I have yet to find any of them. I recommend u try to find one of those "Goldfinger" things (they slide over the internal connector on the Athlon PCB,

as a matter of fact, where do u get one of those things, I WANT ONE. I herd u can make them yourself but I think it's just a little to difficult, I'm 14 and I know almost nothing about circuit-diagrams, If your any good with a solder iron u can do what I did, here's where I found out how to if your interested, http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/99q3/990826/

I don't have a Goldfinger. All I have is the chip and the mobo. It's a cheap combo I got from *gulp* TigerDirect.
