I was wondering what the right water to anti-freeze ratio is supposed to be? Ihave it right now at about 65% anti-freeze and 35% distilled water.

that sound to me like abit too much antifreeze unless you are using pelts.

even then you should have more water than antifreeze because water transfers heat better and you really don't need much antifreeze to prevent corrosion

I am not going to use antifreeze in my setup at all though I am going with water wetter

why are you cutting your stuff with antifreeze?

65% antifreeze should be enough to stop any corrosion or bacteria from forming

you only want about 5-10% anti-freeze sense all it is there for is to prevent corrosion and bacteria growth

dunno if you saw this or not...

scroll down for the tables on antifreeze in your system

use a couple ounces of water wetter or purple ice if you're worried about bacterial growth and corrosion. you'll want to keep that water content as high as possible.

at www.overclock-watercool.com they have the right ammount of stuff to put in (i think)

question: if you use aluminum and copper in your system, will water-wetter, or antifreeze prevent corrosion?

simon389

yes both will

Yes, both will....more or less

so if i mix aluminum and copper, and use antifreeze or water wetter, i shouldnt have to worry about corrosion as much then? if its a small issue, thats fine.

You should always use some sort of anti-freeze, to preven corrosion, and to help keep the diaphram of the pump from becoming brittle and cracking. Too much anti-freeze is a bad thing though. Cars have a 50/50 mix. For CPU cooling applications, it should be less.

As an ASE master auto technician I can tell you the correct rate is 50/ 50. However I don't use and do not recommend antifreze in your computer water cooling rig. It is overkill and will cause more harm than good . The small plastic water pumps used in most rigs don't like it at all.

If you have similar metals in the block and the rad, and use clean water to start with with, It has been my experience you will not have a problem with corrosion.

Hope this helps, Billy

you wont have any corrosion if you use 5% or either anti-freeze or water wetter
