Just like the title. I have a gigabyte 6600gt currently and an eVGA 6800 en route. Will this just pop right in, or am I going to have to uninstall, driver clean, and reinstall to get it to work?

At the very least I would uninstall them. Perhaps cleaning it with a 3rd party util isn't necessary, since you will be using the same files later on - but Windows does recognize the chip referenced to a 6600gt specifically.

you will have to install new driver for it.. even though they are both 6xxx and both nvidia when you install drivers, it installs for that specific card ie only for a 6600gt, or only for a 6800ultra. you will have problems if you dont atleast do a clean driver install, much less a system format (what i do when i get new hardware, what ever the hardware is)
no, you do not have to reinstall the drivers, i have swapped out my 6600gt with my friends 6800nu and my old GF4 and didn't have to re-install the drivers. unless you plan on useing different drivers than you currently are, you won't have to uninstall.

u dont HAV to, nvidia will just detect its not your 6600 GT in it anymore, and chuck the 6600 gt aside and install the 6800 driver, but i would recommend uninstalling it, coz all nvidia did was chuck it aside, throw it out altogether!!
I would reinstall it. Then you know for sure, if you encounter any problems, that it can't be a bad driver installation.

Yes, you will have to resinstall the drivers. When the drivers are loadede they configure themselves to the speciffic card you are running. If you left the old configuration in, who knows what kind of errors you'd get, or when they'd raise their ugly head.
I always remove drivers manually thru Win, then boot into safe mode, and run DC Pro, then load the drivers while still in safe mode. it bypasses and AV Software Activity that way. AV Software can conflict with driver installs.
Be sure to turn off your modem if you are using broadband as your security will be zero while in safe mode... i.e. No FW, No AV, no script blocking, and no Trojan blocking.
Edited to Add: By leaving the old drivers you can get conflicts. That's the reason you want to completely remove them. The reason you need to install the new ons is becasue if you let Win do it, it will only load an old set of drivers, not the latest.
