Ok, this is the deal. We originally had our DSL on XXX-XXX-9093 and we had an option for SBC Yahoo DSL Pro Package (384-512k upload) which gave me, 24ping on southern california servers, 48 on seattle, 56 in dallas, and 88 in chicago. We switched lines and we were givin the SBC Yahoo DSL Express package *barf*(Upload: 128-384k, I get around 316k) it has givin me pings like, 68 in san diego servers, 80 in seattle, 108 in dallas, and 132 - 140 on eastern servers. So, I call up the technitions and they said I cant get the pro package on a phoneline, thats 10ft away from the 9093 line, wtf gives? There isn't any other DSL services in my town, SBC is the only one. But seriously, how is this possible? Any other tips on getting my upload upgraded?
www.dslextreme.com, they are a reseller for SBC. Great prices and good service, and it is possible to switch w/o downtime from SBC. Give it a try, good luck :)
P.S. They have an referral program, if ya decide on them, would be nice to see a credit hehe

Ever think of cable?
You aren't limited like you are with DSL to the HO.
You are however limited on upload(which he is interested in more than anything) cable doesn't allow you to host a webserver also, if they catch you hosting your termin8'd. Another fact on cable is it is a shared network, not dedicated bandwidth like DSL.
Might be a good idea to look into Verizon Fios too, it is tough to determine where it is available but worth a try in San Diego. It is possible they do have service there and the bandwidth is well worth the price. good luck!

Cable has a faster upload and download. DSL with out a business account doesn't allow you to host a server either.
Unless you have some super fast DSL, which most don't, cable will be much faster.

while cable is a shared medium, i can pull my full 5 mbits down (capped) all day long, without problems, can alsu upload at my 384 kbits all day. while a friend on sprint DSL can dl at his.. 512 kbits all day, with a couple modem power cycles in there, and up at his 64 kbits for a while. while its a shared medium, there isnt enough load on the capacity to make a difference. and DSL becomes a shared medium when it hits the DSLAM router at the providers office, so not too much of a difference, except being used for advertising, saying "we're dedicated bandwidth" yeahh too bad you dont give sit for bandwidth.....
is being $15 cheaper worth having 4.5 mbits less downstream? and 320 kbits less upload?
I was just trying to give someone a reasonable alternative perspective according to his question. Besides, look at the facts, San Diego....metro, possibly high use shared cable network. I pay 49/m for 6mb/608kb and tests at 5.5mb and 540kb consistently. So how much does cable cost, and not just the cost of the internet charges, cable included plz? Remember he is looking for upload bandwidth, hmm looks like my upload is almost double yours!
