I got it from a friend it was retail because the letter void were written under the sticker he pulled off.

Microsoft

there are no stickers on a retail p3

i should know ive had a few maybe take a pic of it

Erick

This one definetly had a sticker that when it was peeled off left three "void" on it. Maybe it was a vendor applied sticker. It was a p3-550 so it was probaly out of warrenty any way. I would take a pic but I have no digital camera.

If it's a retail chip, warranty should be three years. What's the date on the chip itself? (what's the first four letters/numbers in the second line of text on the chip)

Erick

7012 Are the 4 letters of the second line. The copyright under intel says '99. The stepping is sl3r3 if that helps.

Microsoft

thats a vendor sticker

whats the sl code on top of the chip?

Retail OEM

550E
SL3R3 SL3QA cA2 secc2
SL3V5 SL3N7 cA2 fcpga
SL44X/SL3XH SL3XH cB0 secc2
SL45T/SL44G SL44G cB0 secc2
SL3FJ/SL3F7 SL3F7 kC0 fcpga

Microsoft

its a secc2 case and the warranty is from the time of purchase

you can try and wipe off the stuicker part try not to scratch it up and call intel and see if they will support the warranty

its not like people keep reciepts after 2 years

Erick

It is definetly not a secc2 it is a fcpga. Does the warrenty apply to a second owner? If so I will try calling intel tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Microsoft

they dont know your a second owner

You'll probably need a proof of purchase or so

Erick
10-21-01, 11:11 PM
I don't have that but you never know. I "lost it." Or at least thats what I will tell them.

Microsoft
10-21-01, 11:11 PM
may not need it tell them you cant find it

Erick

I hope so. I still think it is strange that sl3r3 is listed as a secc2 and the one I have right in front of me is fcpga.

Nope, the first four letters of line two...

Here's the numbers off of my P/// for comparison;

600e/256/100/1.65v S1
10150346-0348 Phillipines
i@@ '99 SL44Y

The numbers I'm refferring to, on my chip would be 1015, which breaks down as this;

1 Origin of CPU (1 = Phillipines)
0 Year of manufacture (0 = 2000, 9 = 1999, etc...)
15 Week of year manufactured (15 = 15th week of year 2000)

So, I can tell by these four numbers, that my P/// 600E was made in the Phillipines, sometime in the middle of April, 2000.

Those are the numbers I mean. I can't recall all of the Plant codes, but the 2nd thru 4th are always the year, and week the chip was made....;)

So, if "7012" are in those positions, then your chip was made in the last week of March, or first week of April, 2000. Well within the three year window for retail cpu warranty.

As far as the "S" code, that can tell you if it's retail, or OEM....go check in the cpu database on the front page here, for a link to intels site, where that info can be found.

That might work, if it's a retail chip....if it OEM, it's over a year old, by my calculations....:(

Actually I have two but I gave the wrong one before.

Heres the full markings on the cpu:

RB80536PY550256
Q009A303-0033 SL3R3

The other one:

RB80536PY550256
7012A310-0039 SL3QA

Both are fcpga.

"Q", I think is Malasia, if I remember right...that chip dates from Feb. 2000

Microsoft
10-21-01, 11:31 PM
and actually even if the code is OEM it still has a retail warranty

a friends got a retail fcpga with a OEM stamping and he called intel

Erick
10-21-01, 11:31 PM
So it is definetly still in warrenty?

Mr B
10-21-01, 11:33 PM
Just for giggles....is the chip right there, in front of you?

Is "Q" = Malasia??? :p

Erick
10-21-01, 11:35 PM
Yes the chip is right here in front of me and it is a malay. The other one ( non-retail) is a philippines.

I hate to be the Party killer here.. but is this cool talking about how to rip off Intel in a public forum?

Maybe I'm over-tired, but I thought he said he got it from a friend who peeled off a sticker.. then we're saying things like 'I "lost it." Or at least thats what I will tell them.'

Just sounds like something that we should careful of giving advice about... especially here in public.

(OK.. Call me what you want; I'm thinking of the forum as a whole and not trying to win friends and influence people..)

RMA'ing retail chips doesn't require a sales receipt nor for you to be the first owner. Simply call Intel's RMA department and read them off the numbers. They'll let you know if it's still under warranty. If so, they issue an RMA number and you ship it in. Mine arrived 4 days after I received receipt of their receipt.

RMA'ing a chip is not ripping someone off alan. Nothing was mentioned as to why it's broken in the first place.

I paid $149+tax for my PIII keychain.

Erick

Well I just got off the phone with Intel and they are sending out the RMA number shortly.

Good to hear it, Shadow.. I'd rather err on the side of caution, that's all. No harm, no foul.
