I am an Intel guy, he is an AMD guy. So... I'm not very knowledgeable in the AMD field and I was wondering if you guys could help yet another poor sap building a friend a computer. :)

Here is what I was looking at.. (400$ limit) Make changes as necessary:
Asus:

eVGA 6600gt:

3000+

Corsair Value:

Here is the other set up:
Same ASUS board as above ^^
Sapphire 9800pro:

3300+

Same RAM as above ^^

Thanks guys. Didn't know whether to go with a x700pro since it's newer tech or the 9800pro.

Edit:
Oh and used for mostly gaming, some schooling, and programming.

since it seems you're going for a lower end system, id go with socket 939 and a 3000 venice, so he has upgrade options

and for me, gaming and schooling is one and them same :)

ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 $66.00
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ $139.99
Corsair 2x512MB Value Series $82.25
eVGA GeForce 6600GT PCI-E $127.99

Total: $416.23

Or, if he has a AGP card, you can use it with the ASRock motherboard, since it has both AGP and PCI-E slots for either usage on video cards.
