ok this morning i went to download some codecs for a movie i downloaded and the WHOLE machine crashed (dunno why!) anyway i switched the machine off because i had to goto uni but when i switched the machine back on it wouldnt boot!

anyway i unplugged the drives to diagnose the problem and no my 80gig wd drive wount work! (luckly my raptor does!) now is there anyway of checking all my drives fitness as im really worried now and is there a way to somehow find out whats wrong with my 80wd drive? its like only a year old! *cries*

if you are worried about the SMART status, you probably haven't looked at the "capacity" side...last I knew there wasn't a 2143GB raptor drive available :( Doesn't hurt to back up what you still have available...

my other drive is dead and im abit peed as i dont have a recipt or anything the other drive dont even spin and i dont know why!?! ive lost all my work and ****!

is there notthing i can do?

im going to back up all i have on this drive now

Well, it might still be covered under a WD warrenty and since you didn't do anything do damage it, I think you are still covered. One thing I might suggest you do before scraping everything is to unplug the hard drive entirely, then plug it back in the same IDE spot and use a different power molex. Also make sure the molex is connected directly to the power supply, NEVER USE ONE THAT COMES FROM A FAN.

Nothing is guaranteed, but anything is better than nothing.

yea ive tried all that including different molex's and sata cables! even with just that hd and it dosent spin! :(

infact the bios dont even see it *cries* ive lost all my work and i have to have some completed by like next week!im really ****ed off specially if my raptor is diying too!

ok hd may be ok (i carnt fully test) i just changed the 80gig cable and port for my raptors cable and port adn the bios found it!!!

Only poblem now... is it the port or the cable i'll find out tomorrow i need some game relief for now oh and i checked my raptor with speed fan and it says 100% fitness so i dunno :shrug:

Make sure that SMART is enabled in the BIOS for the second channel.

Yeah, thats one big raptor. Your drives should still be under warranty though. If you dont have another comp or hd u can dump the data on. You could always ask a friend if you can throw your stuff on his hd for a while. Hope everything works out for you.

thanks im goign to phone the shop tomorrow and ive sent a snapshot to wd to see what they say lol but for now im going to bed im being woke up at 6am to go away and i hate mornings lol

Have you tried running their bootable Data Lifeguard CD? This will also test the drive's fitness and wheter it really needs an RMA or not.
