using XP

I recently ran into a problem with my network at home. Here is the rundown.

I have 2 desktops, one wired and one wireless. My wired one needs to have a static IP set ever since it fell out of my van while I was moving. For some reason, it won't aquire an address using dhcp.
The wireless is using dhcp just fine.

I can ping each pc using IP from the other, but I cannot ping using the PC name. I cannot see either PC in my metwork places, nor can I connect to any shares on either PC.

::EDIT:: I can now ping using both IP and name, but still not connect to any shares or see them in the network. I added IP's and names to Hosts file to be able to do this.

I need to have my primary back-up my business data to my secondary nightly, and can't do it until I get this solved, so please gimme a hand...

Thanks guys!!!

I assume you push from your primary pc (wired) to your wireless pc? Can you from your wireless box, start|run|\\wired-pc-name\shared-name, does that bring up the shared folder on the wired pc?

jajmon ,
I cannot. Network path not found. I can't run from this(wired) to the wireless either.

When I try from this one, I get network location could not be reached

Then just don't use names but \\192.168.1.3\sharename

Also check if the NetBIOS to tcpip service or however it's called is running on both

Tried connecting to shares via IP, earlier. Doesn't work.

I'll check on NetBios thing

NetBios is enabled..

Also, my wired PC doesn't even show up in my static IP list or obviously the dhcp list in my router. It's looking as if that PC is the problem.

Any Ideas??

run "ipconfig" and check if it actually has an IP. if not, chance it to dhcp or enter a static one: If you go static, chose the right subnet, ie same one as the router
