First off, Welcome to the Forums !
Now to your question, that does seem a bit high. That is a pretty decent HSF you have and with ASII, your idle temps should be lower. Here are some ideas:
1) Check to be sure your HSF is seated properly on the CPU core.
2) Did you apply the ASII correctly. See the ASII web site for details, but generally, you want a VERY thin layer of ASII.
3) Was the bottom of the HSF machined poorly? If so, some lapping may be in order.
Those are some things to check.
Also, how are you getting the temp? Some motherboards have been know to give readings that are up to 10C off. Provide more detailed system specs for us to see.
Let us know what you find and don't hesitate to ask more questions.

I have 2 case fans I blowing 1 sucking, the CAK38 is firmly seated on the top, AS2 was applied accoridng to the instructions, Im looking into the surface of the heatsink, it did have a few bumps...
I have the cak 38 and a 1.4. I had about the same temps untill I lapped it, now my idle is 45 , and my load is 53 (F@H2 for Team overclockers.com). I am considering a glaciator II. I don't like the noise.
I lowered about 2 degrees of my idle and3-4 of my load.

I have the Glaciator II and from experience I can tell you it is very quiet. I have 1 intake and 1 exhaust fan in my case plus the PS fan and the Glaciator is about on par with those fans.
When I power up my machine I can hear fans, but not airplanes.
And, it does a great job cooling. I have my PC in a hutch that is part of the desk. I drilled holes in the bottom of the hutch for some additional airflow so I can keep the door shut and my load temps are around 45 or 46.
I have no idea about idle since my computer never has idle time since it's always Folding (http://www.overclockers.ws/folding) .

I recently purchased the glaciator II as many have, and let me tell you it is awesome. Before I was using a standard cooler master fan, and i was running 49-50C idle. WIth the glaciator, I'm at 38-40 idle, 41.5C max, and I'm o/c ed to 1503 mHz. (i'm working on the o/c, I have the a7m266 and i can't raise the fsb much more). The glaciator is everything people say it is, runs only at 2800 rpm, so it's even quieter than my two generic case fans. My first experience with non mainstream heatsinks and o/c ing, Have to say it worked out well for me.
I've bin modding my case for airflow these last few days, I purchased a Vantec CCK6035D last week and it gave me only like 1-2 degrees temp diff. WITH it's big fan and copper construction. My stock fan was giving me around 54 degrees average and the vantec averaged out at 52. So I started looking at my case. I had 1 intake fan 120mm@2700RPM and one exaust 60@5000RPM as well as a HD cooler with 3 20mm fans that pull around 15CFM's of air through over the HD's at around 2500RPM per 20mm. Oh, and don't forget the PSU fan exausting.
Now with all the fans all at good CFM's my case them was around 29-30 degrees. Hmmmm..... with motherboard temps at around 31-32 degees.
I sat down and looked at it and realized that the intakes and the exaust points all had just a few hole compared to the actual area they had to vent. in both cases the fans could not pull/push air past the poorly designed intakes.
So I got out the trusty dremal and cut out the intakes.
Now my case temps are sitting at ambient with my motherboard temps at ambient. and my CPU with stock fan sit's at around 47-51 under load. averaging around 49. that's a 5 degree drop just by venting my case properly.
So the moral to this story is, get your case temps down and you will see even better temps with your HSF.
Hope that this helps some.

BTW: temps in sig are wrong! I have to change them.

With the weather getting cooler here in Memphis, TN I dropped my CPU core 2 deg. C by opening a window. This is by far the cheapest mod ever.

What size case fans do you have?
I had heat probs even worse than yours, i added x2 ystech 120mm fans and now get cpu idles around 39c load 42c with my 1.4@1.5.
ps The fans are a bit noisey.
