starting to oc ram

my parts came in today , and I want to know how to start off overclocking the ram

specs :

amd64 4000+ sandy
dfi manparty nf4 ultra-d
2x512 ocz el plat revis 2
evga 7800gtx
aspire 500w psu?

everybody gets crazy speeds with this ram, but I just want to know how to start the overclock.

1. raise voltage? or just change the speeds? im quite new to this as ive never had good hardware that was capable of real overclocking
2. change the timings?
3. memtest? im sorry i really dunno

clarification : I want to know how much to start things off at. people have all kinds of crazy speeds for these chips but I just want to know what I should try first before doing anything crazy

If you use the method described in this execellent sticky, you'll find your maximum safe OC without endangering your RAM. The great thing about this method is you let the RAM tell you when it's had enough.
