I use a dial up modem to connect to the internet.. what is the best way to connect faster? My computer is a POS, but there is no chance of me to upgrade it, are there any tweaks anyone knows that can help my connection?
ty for any help
I've used plenty and can't remember any of them as it's been a while since I've been on dialup.
Try visiting 56K.com (http://www.56K.com). I know they carry drivers for about every modem ever made but seems as if they had links to sites devoted to dialup tweaking etc. For some reason, I know it's worth going to.
Hope you find what you need.
Oh, yeah...Tweak3D.net (http://www.tweak3d.net) has a modem tweak guide for 98 and Win2K. Just look along the left side of the page for their "how-To" guides.

my connection used to be better, but all of a sudden i got a real noticable decline in performance, this is right about the time when i reformated, added another hard drive, and to top it off, had to use a different modem driver, i dont know what kind of modem i have so i dont know what driver to get, so windoze picked one for me..
which one of these is probobly the source of my connection problems?
i also think that my entire computer being a POS is a major factor in my ping/connection quality.. is that right?
Mainly would depend on whether it's a Winmodem or true hardware modem. Winmodems pretty much suck and there isn't much hope for them. Either way you want the correct driver for it. Standard drivers will give no better than standard performance.
I would crack open the case if need be to find out what modem you have exactly. A better driver can in some cases really increase your connection.
