I've looked but I cant seem to find a shim for my new AMD Tbird 1.13 MHz.
Anyone know a site where I could get one (UK only) ?
Or a shop on the corner (London, UK only)?

go to www.hardcorecooling.com they have some neat annodized shims there, just make sure you dont get the copper one, they retain alot of heat....they are like $7 for one that fits durons, tbirds, XP's and MP's......there ya go

try overclockers.co.uk however I personally would not suggest using one, but thats a choice you must make for yourself.. search the forums for the various threads on shims to see the general opinion on them.
If you still have no luck finding one let me know as Im in London and have access to various sources

Why not use shims?

The shim has to be perfectly flat, a slight distortion could lift the heatsink away from the CPU which is not uncommon as these things get dropped and man-handled during transit. There are also some shims which are conductive, these can cross the bridges of AMD CPU's and damage or short themselves out. Shims effect processor temprature. A shim appears to provide a false sence of security and as such less care is usually taken when removing a heatsink from a CPU fitted with a shim.. I would rather take care and know the full situation rather than depend upon a shim being off high enough quality that it is truely flat and that it has not been damaged during transit. I am also of the opinion that if shims were a good idea AMD and Intel would have an approved list similar to that for heatsinks.
imho shims are there to make money for shim makers, and nothing else
