View Full Version : Headphone quality .....z5500 v soundcard

Does anyone notice the difference between using the headphone jack on the z5500 control unit versus the jack on the soundcard?

from a little bit of testing on my audigy2 i cant seem to distinguish between the two.

if anything the signal should be slightly clearer from the soundcard jack right?

reason being i am considering *shudder* an x-fi and only really need the breakout box for the headphone jack as i play music through my emu card in analog to my HT amp ....the x-fi will be strictly for gaming.

Depends on my pair of phones, on the a900s no dif, the SA5000 had no volume on the headphone out so.... my guess is the audigy 2 is better but really depends on the how hard the phones are to drive.

Right. That's why I believe people use amplifiers to up the signal from the soundcard to the headphones.

i'm using some sennheiser hd575's and i cant notice any different in volume from the different jacks. they're a little on the low side for some stuff though and would prolly benefit from an amp.

it's a shame the z5500's don't amp the headphone jack....oh well

I would plug them into the sound card. I doubt that It would really make a difference in sound quality though. Hey Hey_Its_Cole, (minor thread jack) do you know a good place that I can buy a pair of Dts 770/80's? I have been looking for some new phones and I have decided on these.

I just sold a pair (They where in the Classifieds) but if i was you i would go with the A900s, I had both and prefered the A900s by a large margin. My 2 cents.
