I don't know if you guys ever heard of it or not but there is a nasty ad aware/virus going around called vx2, sometimes vx2.look2me. Anway unfortunately I got this on one of my computers. After trying Spybot, Ad-Aware SE, Hijack This, CWshreeder, MS Anti-Spyware and others I was unable to remove the culprit (even in safe mode). All found the file causing the problem, but one of the things it does is re-write itself when deleted making it almost impossible to remove.

So what does this have to do with Webroot Spy Sweeper? It was the only spyware scanner that removed the spyware. Unlike the others I mentioned above it is not free, but thank goodness they did have a 30 day trial. Normally I’m all for the free versions and most of the time they work great, but this is one program I will support with my pocket for working so well.

Webroots are a major pain. I had one on my kids computer that I could not for the world of me get rid of. I ended up dumping the whole drive reformatting and re-installing everything. Then I proceeded to inform the kids that if they installed/opened or downloaded anything without asking me first, the next time this happens thier computer will be turned into a folding machine only. :) Seems to have worked so far, they won't even change the desktop :).

Thanks for the info on Webroot Spy Sweeper...

Spy sweeper is a very good program but like most programs that combat spyware/malware you need more than just one program.

I've used SS before, its very efficient, but I wasn't willing to pay for it.
