what im asking is am i gonna hear a difference between onboard and the chaintech?
yes, as long as the receiver supports 192KHz/24-bit PCM SPDIF.

ok
Well the front channels definately. I only use a 2.1 system now, and absolutely love it.

If you're using digital out, then it doesn't really matter what card you're using, since the DAC on the card is not utilized at all. Bit-perfect digital out is bit-perfect no matter what.

I doubt the onboard is bit perfect digital out, I would hazard a guess that kmangler (kmixer) resamples the onboard to 48khz, and ASIO and Kernal streaming dont work.

sry to thread jack but if you were to say.. use the av-710's analog ports (for 5.1) would there be a quality increase from 5.1 realtek onboard on my ai-7? thx

Overclucker: Make sure you have all of the settings right in the control panels, are you trying to play PCM audio, or dolby/dts?
Maxxoverclocker: Yeah, it should be better.

Sounds like the same problem I had. Try setting it to 2 channel 48KHz audio. My receiver supports 96KHz/24-bit DTS however not PCM.
