I looked up the specs on my memory, and my old new egg invoice and I have one stick of:

Corsair 512 XMS 3200 RAM

that I bought 2 years ago from newegg.

do you think it would be alright to buy another one from newegg. Or should I sell my stick and get a twin pair? reasoning?

If you decided you wanted to do dual channel, then you'd be better off getting a matched pair, but otherwise just grab another stick of 512.

is there that much variance in the same model RAM?. "matched pairs" have had what tests done to them?

As long as it's a matching stick of the same stuff, it'll run in dual channel.
