I've not tested FEAR, but between Q4 and BF2 I would go for BF2 without a doubt.

Just a FYI. bf2 is a memory hog. It might be chopping with only 512mb of ram.

Another vote for BF2 since I like that style of multiplayer over the Q4 style so it has greater replay value, however, I really enjoyed playing the single player champain in Q4 so get that one too as soon as you have enough cash saved.
Haven't gotten to playing F.E.A.R. yet so I have no comment on it.
If you want a much slower experience get BF2, if you want faster multiplayer get FEAR or Quake. Personally I'd get FEAR without a doubt, FEAR multiplayer is fantastic, and singleplayer is some of the best in years.

what does the special edition quake have over the regualar?

I wouldnt say BF2 has all that much replay value, after about 2 months your burnt out and it gets quite old.

I would say BF2 over quake, actually. BF2 has an unlimited set of replay value, as long as you are interested in that type of game. My friend and I would play the BF:V on a lan with bots for....hours on end. It was quite a bit of fun. Why? Because basically anything could happen.

I got sick of BF2 after a few weeks, I'd say FEAR is by far the best investment out of the three. The single player has almost unmatched quality.

512 megs on BF2 almost doesnt work, Ive done it, and its extremely hard to play, your framerates will be crap, when I upgraded to 1.3 gigs then I had a MUCH better palying experiance

buy bf2 and another stick of ram. fear is great, but once its done, its done. you can play bf2 forever!!!!!

I wouldn't say that you can play if forever. Its just DC with some changes, more of the same if you ask me. Besides, with it now being so pitifully easy to rank up you'll have all the weapons you can get and will have little else to do short of buying the expansion. (exactly what EA wants you to do)

I would just wait for ESIV imo, thats gonna be a great game. Ive played BF2 since release and was a Staff Sergeant pre-1.03, i dont see people thought was so great about it. It seemed to me that it was just a typical buggy, incomplete, and poorly-supported EA game.
bf2 has no replay value. got bored after about 1 and a half months.

The special edition is DVD, I think thats the only difference?

oh yessssss. buggy as hell. but still, an amazing game. if you play in a clan, or just on a good server with no nOObs then it is brilliant. the graphics rock, and if you alternate between player types its always different, i think it has great reply value.

I did play with a clan and with friends, and we had a blast playing karkand and in the cobras on Dalian. Howeverthe same strafing runs in a helo over and over again can still get old. But its now way too easy to get shot down and the spawn camping on the urban maps has grown to be ridiculous. Hopefully some of the mods coming out will revive the playability, but until then i would steer clear.

I put another vote in for BF2. If you like online play there isn't a better option out of those, especially if you enjoy competitive gaming with clans.

just came back from the store and i got bf2 and q4 i whould of gotten fear instead of quake but it was sold out
but anyway i love both these games:P
Singleplayer FEAR >> BF2
Replay = Multiplay = BF2 hands down.
Replay value might be great for bf2, you have option of massive multiplayer games .. but none the less i think you would get bored in a lil time so lets come to single player experience and in that i think so FEAR beats everything hands down, honestly speaking one should buy FEAR just for the sake of the awesome single player experience it offers,
In bf2 you have pesudo single player game which is same environment as multiplayer but instead of humans you are playing with bots, thats like playing CS with bots, any CS player would tell you that bots get BORING ... so if you are looking for single player than bf2 wont be the obvious choice
quake iv i havent tried it out so i wont comment on it, i dunno if single player experience it offers is better than fear or not, but again my strong emphasis that the quality of game play FEAR offers is worth it ...
a very big NEGATIVE point about FEAR is that it is definately heavy on machine requirements
ill have to say i havent played bf2 or quake 4 but i have the fear sp demo and it is amazing so id vote for fear.

I have so much more fun playing FEAR than BF2. I haven't played Quake4 yet but the screenshots look good.
You should DL the BF2 and FEAR demo and play them. IDK if Quake4 has a demo out yet but I'm sure there will be one.

The other saving grace for BF2 is the mod community. I would be interested in seeing what sort of mod might come out for FEAR, but for right not BF2 would be the way to go with that. I think that Quake4 could also have some good mods once different groups get their hands on the SDK.

At first i thought BF2 was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it definetly gets old, and the support EA has given it is quite lackluster. BF2 is one of those games that i find to be very frustrating rather than fun, it has added quite a few dents to my desk. The only way i could see BF2 having alot of replay value is if you had a large group of friends or a good clan playing with you. Its the people that play the game that make or break it, and BF2 has a fair share of idiots and 11 year olds playing it. I played with a clan of close friends since release, and we were all quite burnt out by mid-October. I would say it would be even worse if you didn't have a large group of active friends.

I recently completed F.E.A.R. and it was one hell of a ride! One of the best single player games I've played in a long while. However, to me, it didn't last long enough. I picked it up on a wednesday and beat it by sunday. I didn't spend tons of hours playing either. I played the online and wasn't too impressed with it and don't see much replay in it after a few time around.
BF2 is lots of fun and I play it often. I don't play it tons, but it hasn't gotten old. I like the idea of the ribbons, awards and badges and find myself trying to get them if i can. I never get bored with it, but if you play it day and night, I could see how it would get repetitive.
Q4 i haven't played yet.
My suggestion is if you want an awesome story and play time, pick up F.E.A.R., but if you want replayability, BF2 is the way to go.

I think your right about the replayability of BF2 being effected by how much you play. I suppose if your not one to play it every chance you get it would be fine, that is if you could stomach all of the cheap kills that happen to you.

what game doesn't have cheap kills though? just about any game you can mention either has hackers, cheap kills, both, people who exploit, you name it. saying that FEAR doesn't have them will change as it is a recent release, just wait til it has been out for 4 months and come back.

I vote BF2, if you get bored in the game try something different, there are different classes you can be, and if you get tired of being infantry then be a squad leader. Then learn how to fly the choppers or planes. If you get tired of that then try being a commander. Even more tired? Then get teamspeak and it gets better and better.

BF2 is choppy and you will have lag at the start of every map if you don't have 2 gigs of memory. With that said, BF2 is my favorite of the three games you listed, I have them all and I only play BF2.

Not unless you ar running at high settings, mine was not choppy at all when I was on 2x512 st medium settings, max it was choppy, but not medium.

bf2 multiplayer w/ 512mb was almost unplayable for me. I had to get at least 1gb to have any fun at all

Then you must be the only person in the world without lag at the start of the game running a gig of memory. This lag with under two gigs is present at every video setting, Low or High.

That rename thing with the .bik files does help if you have "only" 1 gig of mem.

I'm addicted to BF2. It's gotten me to upgrade to 2gb of RAM, get a headset and now a X-Fi card. And probably a new video card in the near future.
