Do you think WinXp is it ? Do you ever think that MS will release the second edition of WinXP . Its name is "Longhorn". Beta is on its way in 2002 and will be released in 2003.

what say you?

Why does the name "Longhorn" bring back memories of that Microsoft Redneck 98 joke?

I haven't seen the "roadmap" for Mixostuf, but I think they will keep "xPeeing" us for a long time to come...

I believe it! This is the same company that had us using Windows 95 until 1999. They'd rather patch than make a new product!

And seeing the state of some of their products, that's a good thing! 629 patches for XP already, sheesh!

It does not seem very consistent. I picked up 14 systems for resell today. All were T'bird 1.2's with the XP "home" edition. It seems like a 50/50 shot so far if everything works with our software/equipment out of the box, literally. The first one, we couldn't get our digitizer to work, second one did, third and fourth didn't fifth did, 6th I left for someone else to try.
We'll see.

The ONLY reason that Microsoft continues to update products is a simple one and that is it is a business. Microsoft is responsible to its share holders this is no mystery in itself.

I do not believe that there is any more of a problem within XP than any other Microsoft product and that it will be patched and updated to a new version in all due time, this is not unexpected and is most certainly not mysterious

The ability of Windows XP to detect hardware has nothing to do with stability.
Windows XP could not detect my HP deskjet, a printer model which has not been supported by HP themselves for 3 years is this also a stability problem?
There was some compatibility issues with Windows 95 upon release not to mention recently with Windows2000 upon release however most companys fixed these issues over a period of time and the same will happen with XP

So you see "STABLE" in my post..........."STABLE" term means more than just HARDWARE........If you tell me that detecting HARDWARE has nothing to do with STABILITY..of Windows..............

perhaps, the term "Plug and Play" brings the BELL..............:)?.......You need the driver for the hardware to work.........and without the driver installed..and function PROPERLY.in Windows Environment..............why bother with HARDWARE issue............

most consumer printer is getting outdated and eventually isn't supported...........since everything new comes out every month.........Why borther with old stuff ?.............Period...........................i'm not supprised to see your HP printer like that

I agreee and disagree that there is not more of a problem with XP, because like you stated it will be like the first few versions of DOS, 95, and 98, etc... It will take many patches, bug fixes, until we reach a "stable" point of the last release of 95, 98SE, and so on. I hope this makes sense, I tried to reword it.
(that's probably where I messed up) ;)
Although you are 100% correct in your first statement IMO:
"]The ONLY reason that Microsoft continues to update products is a simple one and that is it is a business."

My point was that a previous post mentioned ' It seems like a 50/50 shot so far if everything works with our software/equipment out of the box ' to which you commented 'This is what MS call "more STABLE"...................STABLE my a** ! ' .. This is not a stability issue as if a scanner or something else does not work it usually does not make the OS crash or become unstable, this is nothing more than compatibility problems which have been present on all versions of Windows prior to Windows XP.
I am not personally shocked to see that my printer is no longer supported and even if it was but was not recognized by Windows this would not be a stability issue it would be a compatibility issue.
