can't access backed up files

I used xxcopy to backup my files onto a 2nd drive before replacing my mobo. Now Windows won't allow me to read "my documents" saying access is denied in the new system. I assume that's because I had a password when I first entered the old system Windows. I tried making the same password on the new system but Windows won't buy it.

Is there anyway to see those files?

navigate to that folder and take ownership of the folder (right click | properties)
