Am looking for a cheap, external serial or usb modem (56K) that's almost sure-fire guaranteed to be recognised by most any major linux flavor.

My ActionTec PCI Master Modem (its a hardware modem - NOT winmodem) simply will not cut it with Corel Linux, Redmond Linux, TurboLinux, or Mandrake Linux.

Even if you aren't using an external, let me know what you ARE using, and the model #.

Mucho Thanks - in advance. :D

If you stick to the big name brands you should be alright. What kind of modem are you talking about though? DSL, cable or 56K, etc...?

Uh, like I noted in the first line of my original post: (56k)!;)

I dont know if 3Com USRobotics makes USB modems, but serial modems made by them are great! But still a bit expensive!
Try Diamond Supra Express for a cheaper deal!
