DDR vs. DDR2, should we still keep spending $ on DDR??

seems the DDR2 price is dropping, and the future is belong to DDR2, AMD and Intel are going to give up DDR and go forward to DDR2 or may be DDR3.

Now DDR price is not cheap, I spend AUD$515 for a OCZ PC4000EB 2GB Kit. But this DDR RAM may depreciates very quick? and we can't get a very good second hand price for them when we sell it, is it??

But I don't understand why Intel and AMD go DDR2, it doesn't looks faster than DDR, and even slower than high-end DDR.

What DDR2 lacks in latency it makes up in clock speed and then some. If you need DDR to build a new rig the of course buy it, but I would not go overboard investing in sticks of DDR at this point in time just as I wouldn't invest in an AGP card.

:(

I just spent $515 on a DDR 2GB, I saw some 2GB Kit for only $380, but high latency like 3-4-4-8, which I think is too bad. Is it???

Don't know why DDR2 make the timing to 4-5-5-X...that looks soooo bad.

You have seen 4,5,5,x timings? I haven't seen it unless people were trying to show off 1 or 2gigs of ddr1000 on DDR2 heck Micron D9 chips and some other will do 2x1gb 3,3,3,8 timings at least 350fsb you will probably never get to see stuff like that on DDR1 and if your still worried about timings running your ram at 267 mhz FSB 4,4,4,12 beats out running DDR1@ 200mhz 2,2,2,5 timings.

possible???

Here is my max tightest timing for 2X512 OCZ EB rev2 PC2-4200 DDR2 RAM.

3-2-2-6
3:4 ratio
2.2v
360 MHz
DDR2-720

well, That's a PC4200, only 262MHz....
That's stock rating, he's overclocked it to 360mhz at those timings.

When I had my Intel system, my Patriot DDR2 could do 360mhz at 3-2-2-8

360mhz at 3-2-2-8....................................

how much for this RAM???? That's awesome.
