hi all well its my first time on this bb and ive been reading all your posts wish i hadent got a p4 now but im stuck with it so can anyone help:-)
its a p4 1.5 gig 400mhz thing runing on yes you gesed it SDR :-(
was cheeper than a p3 though and about as fast as my m8ts p3 1 gig
any way had it about 1 week and the cpu core temp is 41 ish idel with 2 90mm case fans to help the cpu fan speed seems slow to me compared to my old p3 it runs at around 2500rpm duz anyone now if this is right ??? coz ill take it back if not i emailed intell 5 days ago and am still wating for a reply btw for what it cost its not bad
im useing an asus p4b MB l8tst one out i think all seems well plays ut and quake well and benchmarcks were a bit loewr than i expected not telling you what i got you will laugh :-)
plz help me b4 i damage the chip oh btw its a genuin boxed fan and heat sink and its a 478 chip i think they call it

The temps seem ok if that's load CPU temps. The RPM on those 90mm fans are slower than a 80mm fan and lots slower than a 60mm fan. That's because the fan blades are bigger and longer, so it can move more air at slower speeds than smaller fans can at higher speeds. Slower RPM means much quieter fans.

Usually more RPM doesn't mean its better ...

You would try to look for a good case fan that would push alot..
There's a Delta 2000rpm and pushes 90cfm I think :)

those temps r idel but i understand about the fan size and speen i sort of gessed it realy just wanted a second opinion
her is the temps i just ran 3d mark 2001

with 3 90mm case fans 2 in one out
cpu temp 48/49
MB temp 29
cpu fan speen when i switch all the case fans on drops to 2300
dont now why this is im using p4 aproved 300w PS should be good enough
if i turn the case fans of (i put them on a switch coz they r nozey)

cpu temp 59
mb temp 38
cpu fan speed 2600 hm
i was thinking about geting a 120 mm fan for the frunt !!!!
but not sure !
is it beter to have more air in the case so its full if you now what i meen
or to have same in as out like equal presher or do they call it nutral???
or more fans blowing out??
and what is a blow hole ive seen it when pps r saying this fan would be good for a blow hole
duz it just meen a fan at the top like and exaust fan typ of thing??? thx again

Ok, I understand now, the first temps you quoted are your idle CPU temps. Those CPU load temps you're telling us about in your last post are getting too hot for overclocking. Sounds like you have fairly good case fans if you leave them turned on. I like to have about equal amount of flow blowing in as blowing out. You say that you have 2 fans blowing in and 1 exhaust. Isn't there another power supply fan blowing out too? If so, you're ok. So I would work on cooling the CPU down some more. First thing is you need to probably get a better CPU cooler. If that's not an option, then at least remove it, clean that crappy heat tape off and reinstall it using a good thermal paste. Next, maybe find a higher output 90mm fan that flows more CFM. Good luck.

P.S. oh yeah, a blow hole is basically any hole cut into the side or top of your computer case that has a fan mounted in the hole. The fan could be blowing in (usually done in the side) or blowing out (usually done in the top). The top blow holes are mostly used for exhaust, because hot air rises and builds up at the top of the case.

cheers bat boy thx very much:D
never thought of taking that stupid tape of the botom thought intel might have got it right for once especily with the size of the heat sink you ever seen one ??
lol about 3"x 3"x 2" ive been hunting high and low for a new cpu fan and sink but cant find one for the 478 pin chip wunder if they make any yet if not gess i wait till they do wont be long then ill clock it to death lol
