Well im finally going to go aqua. I have access to a machine shop at work so im going to build my own waterblock. One idea i have is to make one with a copper block about 3/4" thick with side hose fittings and on the top im thinking of making it like the swiftech hs with all the pins and an 80mm fan.I could make the pins from copper or aluminum nails and just cut each end off so i have the pin.I would draw a grid on top of the waterblock when i decide how many pins i can fit and then drill holes a few mm's deep, just enough so they would stand firm but they would also have jb weld or something for permanent hold.Im not even sure if this idea will work or help in cooling any but i have the time so i might as well try it. Any suggestions or advice welcome

Probably wont do much for cooling, but it'll make a good emergency backup if your water pump etc fails and could keep you from frying a chip

i never thought of that, emergency backup is always a good thing
If Ive got the right idea as to what your saying Ive read other forums where people have discussed what would work. There are some interesting ideas on it too... The biggest thing that most have said about it is that it would only work for a short time but may be enough to prevent the loss of a chip... which in my opinion, makes it alllllll worth it!!!

how about just mounting a socket 370 or socket 7 heatsink on top?
The only problem I see there is that it wouldnt work as well as if the actual pins/fins went into the waterflow, that would cause a little better cooling inside where if just on the outside would cool the block a very little I would think...

that would be a good idea too if i could get it sealed properly so it didnt leak around the pins.It would have to be a totally different design on the inside like maybe all hollow.I will probably build a few using different methods just to experiment.Im hoping that a decent 80mm fan on the block will help at least a little because i only want to use about a 1 litre resevoir for the water, something that will not take up alot of space inside a case, havent decided on a radiator yet but im either going to get a cube case or the antec sx1240,i think i can fit all the components in the antec, its huge
