i dont have the time or experiance to make use of something like this, but these look like they are set up pretty well, and someone could make a killing if they were to buy a case of these and make them plug and play/write the software for them...and sold them in the forums ;) (id buy two or three)

they have an 8 bit controller built in and run off 5v, looks easy enough too make work. google found this:

btw, bgmicro is awesome. i bought 11lbs of aluminum heatsinks there a while back, came to like $15.

Hitachi makes some panels that are dot matrix with 4 lines or 240 x 64 pixels. This one is resold by PIC VUE.

With a little microcontroller experiance (Parallax, Pic, Rabbit 2000 etc) you can hook these things up to do what ever you want. I've got them but I don't have a new ideas that I can't surf to newegg and buy with the nice bezels and buttons already put together. I have plans for a fan-temp device but have to find the time to build and program the chips to make it happen. I've known or knew about BG from way back but had forgotten about them. It's great to see them still competative with Jameco and Digikey.
