Hey guys... I was just wondering how safe it is to up the core voltage on my current card... its at stock right now, and topping out at a puny 415 Mhz and the memory doesn't like anything higer than 1.14Ghz... Will the increased voltage kill the card or will it help me get the clock up? It still has the stock cooler, but I have a NV5 Silencer sitting here waiting to be used... Thanks! :)
I have the same card and it's watercooled. I have managed to get a stable 430/1100 but thats it.
I have read up on modifying the bios to change the voltage to 1.4 but I've also read that it doesn't work too well with our cards for some reason.
If anyone has done this with a BFG 6800 GT please let us know how it went.
Well, I finally bit the bullet and went for it. I flashed the bios to up the voltage to 1.4 and the flash went fine but.... for some reason this card absolutely hated 1.4 volts. I set the core to 425 and the memory to 1100 and it wouldn't even complete a full cycle of Aquamark 3D without crashing.
When it crashed the screen would show just a random bunch of geometric patterns and I would have to do a hard reboot. So I flashed back and now everything is fine.
With just the stock cooler what are you temps like? I bet it's getting too hot with that extra voltage.
To Bios24: I have a DangerDen Maze 4 VGA block so I know it isn't because of temps.
With the VGA block, running at 1.3 volts and the card set at 430/1100 I never break 47 c under full load so I can't imagine that just bumping the voltage up 0.1 volts would increase temps that much.

thx kbtat for the info. Does anyone here know how the change te memory timings on the card? I have the BIOS editor 'NiBiTor' where it gives u the option to change the timings... Has anyone ever tried this? I just want to get my memory to 1200Mhz like old 6800GT..
