Check it out...
Since there are no pits, then the pencil trick will work right?

I personally would be very suspect and at least demand evidence of this

I agree... look at that chip in the picture... you can see dust on it... hmmmmmm.... like my dad always says... "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is"
i dunno, man, that pic looks pretty convincing. and isn't the price pretty good?

the price is definately right.
as for the pic, they do kinda look dirty when you first get them. (at least mine did when you looked at it REALLY close)
plus, it has pits in other places. but maybe that one just doesnt have pits on the L1 bridges.
could it be an MP 1800+?? thats really cheap for one of them though... who knows.

I know almost nothing about these chips. But I do contain an average amount of common sense.
Why is he selling this chip. It's obviously used, look at the white thermal grease...
10 to 1 says it's fried.

I see a poll happening ;) How many people think this is a safe buy?
I don't.

why do you think it has no bids... nobody is stupid :)
I also noticed the picture did NOT include any of the printing on the die itself. It may not even be an 1800.

It would be pretty easy to edit a photo to look like their are no pits, get the poor saps money, send a fried chip to throw him off and dissapper... just a thought

yeah, but all that for $200? nah... they would rather say they have an unlocked P4 2.0ghz or something. $200 is nothing when you think about it. (fraud, etc..)

The top corner of the core has a good wear mark or nick in it...see it? (bottom right corner of pic) I think the "dust" you're refering to may be left over heatsink paste. I can never get all of it off when I make a bad wipe. There's a ton of hsf paste on the sides of the core.
I believe that the chances of unlocked XP's is probably good but I don't think I'd buy this one w/o a warranty!
I've read rumors of these without the pits, but I'd be very leery of this one...
That sure does look like a chipped corner to me. Besides, if it is a true "un-pitted" XP 1800+, why sell it? That chip would fetch far more than "Buy It Now" for $250, don't you think??
There might be something to the thought that it's fried.....
If that's the case, this guy deserves a couple more broken cores....
I wouldn't buy this chip without a warranty. No way.
I think it's a scam too.
buyer beware.
It is fried look at the chip Mr B is correct stay away!

lol, good observation detector. i wouldn't buy the thing, but because there's no warrenty.
I think he was gonna bid on it til we mentioned it looked "fishy".
Might have just saved him a couple of hundred though....
;)
Hmmmm. VERRRRRRRRY Interesting. I just realized that this guy has posted ONLY ONCE. I wonder if he was the one trying to scam us into buying the chip. I bet there are similar messages on other overclock/performance boards.

Oh, good call. It is the same guy!
I also looked at the e-Bay ratings for the seller. Notice the yellow star? It represents the lowest possible--though positive--rating. I bet this 'brainiac88' person never comes back.

Well, I am here to comment...
I posted this and it is not a scam. If you dont wish to bid, then dont. thats cool - i just wanna know if the pencil trick works.
I bought 3x 1800MP+s plus one of which I won at the XPPCentral giveaway at Pacbell park in SF. Yes, the very first giveaway. I bought three more because I wanted to make sure that I would have two for sure that would work in SMP on my Thunder K7.
So now I have two that work on the ThunderK7, sold one to a guy that bought my Tiger MP in eBay, and now I am selling this one as well. Yes, there are no L1 pits. But I cant confirm if the pencil trick works becuase i dont have a mobo that changes the multiplier - the ThunderK7 does not allow that. If I had a video, I can show you that it is an "1800MP+" that shows up when booted on the Thunder K7.
Also, this is clearly a Palomino chip based on the color and the number of additional L bridges and presence of Pits on other L bridges. As for the bartch code - it is blank. Why? I dont know. I bought it that way. But it works, and works well.
I have more integrity than you guys assume. I aint no teenage scammer out to make a buck. I make enough money in working in a Fortune500 Silicon Valley company, so I have no need to scam. Check out the eBay profile if you wish.

Lighten up :)
When ya show up at a site and your first post is pointing towards an item forsale and you don't make it clear in the post that this is for sale by you and the number of trolls on-line............of course people are going to assume the worst.
Hey, stick around and teach me something :D

LutaWicasa:
no prob. i am not much of a forum person until i got my thunderk7 to work - i had nothing of interest back then. now my whole video editing rig is up and running, but i am still in the lower part of the learning curve on using the software.
Yeah ive been into HW since the days of 286s, so i know a few things... Ill be glad to put in my 2 cents.

Fazed -
Its a home office system. Yeah kinda a lot huh. But its used for video editing. In fact, i am getting a PCI expansion chassis so I can add 4 more PCI slots. Darn thunder K7 only has 5, but they are 64-bit!
