ok..so i got 2x512mb sticks of ram. was contemplating upping myself to 2GB. but i thought i remember reading around here that 4x512 forces you to run at 2T?

is there a huge difference between 1T and 2T?

im tryin to find out what the best option for me is...

thanks.

I dug up some links for you to a thread and two articles that have tested this:

http://techreport.com/etc/2005q4/mem-latency/index.x?pg=1

wow thank you very much.

my biggest worry, was having 4x512mb at 2T would create a drop in game performance. from what these show, the avg fps loss is like 5.

think thats a minor sacrifice to have 2GB over 1GB. especially since i got video editing/encoding to do on top of that.

now all i need is like $200 so i can buy more PC4400 from corsair. =\

I heard the new DFi Ultra-D "Expert" can support 1T in 4 DIMMs, same applies for the DFi Crossfire.

You might feel a difference, but the biggest differences would be in benchmarking and stuff. I would say there should be more then a 5fps performance hit, but then I never tried it, so its just a guess.

I dont undestand why the new mobo and ATI crossfire would be any different, since the 2T is CPU related.

ochungry is correct. The board may be able to support it, but it has to do with the integrated memory controller. With Rev. E CPU's you can actually run 4 single-sided sticks at 200MHz and 1T command rate. With double-sided sticks you would be forced to run 2T. With non-Rev. E CPU's you would be forced to run 2T with both single sided and double-sided. You would also be forced to run 166MHz with double sided sticks.

I had this same problem, the word around here is the performance drop or gain is minimal if any. If your doing video editing etc. I would say go with the 2 GIGs. You can always do what i did, sell of your 1 Gig now and get a 2 gig kit.
