Hi, I'm kinda new to the forums so please be kind.
I recently decided to Borg all the computers at work (a moderate retail chain signified by a Yellow Price tag) that are on display. I used my friends zip file with a config file and quick install for F@H. The problem is all the computers keep claiming that the program is not a valid Win32 application. I know they are all running Windows XP home with Service Pack 2 at the very least. Thing is they are all laptops. Does this have anything to do with it? I mean it sounds pretty far fetched but I've seen some messed up things in computers. Any help would be of great assistance.
OH....a link to the package I was using if anyone wants to see it:

i hate to be a "downer" but im going to start off by asking: do you have permission to BORG those PCs?
id love to help, but if you dont have permission...you probably wont be getting any/much help around here.

First, welcome to the forums! :D Joe Camel is correct, please PLEASE make sure you have permission to run FAH on these machines! If your contribution is 2 steps forward, getting caught and reported to Stanford is 1,000 steps back for the project as a whole (and add another 10,000 steps back if there is bad press :( ). It would certainly give FAH a terrible reputation with your retail chain and all associated with it. Please make sure you have permission!

yes, what Joe and Nik said. plus you might end up w/ some legal reponsibility too! just FYI, a couple years ago, a guy installed SETI@Home in a local university in Georgia state. and college found out and he was sued by the Georgia state of using the state's property (computer and electric power bill)!! I'm sure you don't want to end up that way too!!
Yep. Get permission then get borging ;).
I actually had a similar problem with wedo's on click on 4 new HP/Compaq pc's. I click the oneclick that i have on my jumpdrive and nothing happens. the dos bax never opens. I don't see anything running. the directory gets created but nothing gets downloaded. I don't see anything that would stop it. The firewall is configured correctly. The only thing that I see is that the CA assoc antivirus detects it as a virus. I disables the AV but stillno borg. This could be 5 2.8p4's if i can get this to work.
any suggestions?

Yes, I do have permission. Its not a huge deal with management because all the machines get factory restored before we sell them to customers so really its just using processor time that would otherwise be wasted.

did you install with admin rights? that can keep it from working if you install with rights other than admin

only thing that came to (my) mind too...
id assume they wouldnt give demo PC's admin rights to their network ;)
Rabid_Llama8,
please dont think i (we) were just being a pain about getting permission, were just a little procreative of the project.
its good to know that there are open minded managements @ your store, GOOD LUCK with getting F@H installed!!

That gave me something to think about. I always assumed the merch people that setup the machines knew what they were doing but I'll have to double check that. If I install it under an admin account it will work under all accounts right? Dumb question I know but its also 8 am and I just got off work overnight.

if you are using Wedo's OneClick service installation, yes, it will run at the background even if nobody log in.
I'm headding back to that account to see if i can get the one click to work. They just ordered 2 more pc's. Thats and easy 10ghz I can add to the team if i can get the one click to install.
Good luck on your borg rabid!
The only other thing to watch is that you should copy the WORK folder, queue.dat and unitinfo.txt in the FAH folder - C:/program files/FAH from those laptops before they get reimaged so that you can restore the unfinished WU's to your next borg.
Otherwize, it will create unnecessary work and delays for the folks at stanford, and you will also lose the points for the partially completed WU's.
Good luck and good borgin' for THE TEAM!
i figured out my problem. E-trust (Computer Associates) detects FAH as a virus. It has 3 processes running in the background. Using services.msc I stopped them, installed FAH and then put the exceptions in. Now if stanford would only allow my new clients to download the cores!!!! hahahaha

If the computer's got our best buy interactive running on them (like they should) you wont get that installed. We didnt installed the best buy interactive just for the ohhs and ahhhs from the customer. Which store do you work at?

One other thing to consider once you've gotten these installed is an internet connection. The retail stores around here have zero internet connections with any of the computers displayed. Just a pre warning incase you overlooked something :)
