abit vl6 with more then 768megs of RAM?

hi i have a abit vl6 and i found a great deal on memory 512megs of ram for $22 (reason its fo cheap cuz its no universlal, it only supports like 5 chipsets) and in my mobo guide it says that i can only have 256megs of ram in each bank with 3 banks (total of 768megs of ram) but on the www.abit-usa.com it says that i can have like 1.5 gigs of ram. would the 512 meg stick work with my mobo? i dont think there is any new bios udates except the 633 celeron cpu support update. i really dont wanna miss this deal so please help!!!!!!
