No sound.....Sound???

Have a feeling my sound card is on it's way out. Start Win2K from a cold reboot and no sound. Re-start with a warm boot and it works perfectly. Have tried all the usual such as drivers and even formated and reinstalled Win2K.
Is anyone aware of an issue with a Sound Blaster PCI128 and Win2K SP2 or DirectX8a? It had been working perfectly until around a week ago, and still works after the warm boot.

Afraid that's strange :).

I'd suggest making sure the bios doesn't have legacy sound support enabled.

If there's a new sound driver try that. Maybe even reinstall the servicepack and directx 8.

Thanks Pinky, the legacy sound was turned on for the onboard soundcard. Must have left it checked when I last flashed the BIOS (about a month ago). Since I don't often switch the machine off, the sound was still working.
It's funny, once you notice a problem it becomes more of a problem. I must have cold booted more times over the past few days than I have in a month.
