View Full Version : PIII 733 o/c
I've o/c my PIII733@880 (161x5.5). It runs on 1,75 V and is very stable (15x&more SiSoft Burn-in). I've Kingston 256 CL2 RAM, and it goes with CL2 on FSB 161. But problem is temp. with intel's cooler I get 50 C when idle during burn-in over 66C . I've read on intel site that it bears max 80C. Is it good to run him at so high temp. or buy new one.
Is it possible to o/c higher??

Yes, that is WAY too hot. You need to dump the stock hsf for a much better cooling solution, also consider your case cooling. As to can you oc higher, well on the database the average oc for your cpu is 894 MHz. If you'll be able to go higher depends on many variables(mobo, ram etc.) and quite simply put, some chips oc better than others, they're all different.
So, let me just say.....welcome to OCers.com, and enjoy :D
How high is recommended temp. for overclocked PIII733@880???:(

Well, I don't let my 566 Cellie@1054 exceed 40c full load. I imagine staying within the mid 40's range under load would be close to ideal. The lower the better :)

Mine was in the mid to high 30s when I ran it to 925 (CPU database ID 6639). I use an all copper Gladiator with Delta's 38CFM wind machine mounted to it, but had only normal case ventilation (1 in, 1 out, & 1 inside circulating).
880 is quite a nice OC considering how high your temps are. With better cooling, you may be able to run it to near the top of the list.
BTW, that RAM looks excellent! 161 at CAS2! Wish I could get that.
And what MB are you running on?
Thanks for good news, but I don't think I'll hit even 900 cause my CPU is cB0 ) , but who knows maybe...
I run on Microstar 6337 v.1 (i815e PRO), bios ver. 1.3
Ram is Kingston 256 MB CL2 KVR133X64C2 (recognized by SiSoft as Samsung ):D
Oh god better change that HSF to something decent.. Before you burn your chip ..

FYI, the 733 I had was a cB0 also.
Ok, I bought G ORB yesterday. Now on default 733 I have 46 C  I tried several thermal greases (silver, copper ...)same effect. Furthermore I open both sides of case, put extra cooler on chipset (5000 rpm) and still the same ...
I'm ****ed off is Tt G Orb not enough to cool my proc ??
Tomorrow, I think I buy something huge and noisy (my girl will hang me on my balls :) )
OK... Are you on slot 1..?
Goldenorb's aren't good of a slot 1 cooler above 700mhz...
If so you should go with an Alpha...
If your on socket 370 then you should get a swiftech 462-a.
or SK-6
Golden orbs may look cool but as for cooling properties they are decidely deficient. Are you sure it was a real Orb and not just a retail store rip-off? Ive found these type to be 3 degrees(C) warmer than the actual branded Orb.

the Globalwin Vos32 is quite a nice cooler and ive seen it for like 25-30 dollars...
Better cool it or lose it!! :(
Usually doesn't matter how much heat it can take with heat over 45 or 50.. Your computer will run very poorly and worst of all you may experience some stablity problems.
