Hi guys,

First I running Win XP Pro.
Anyways today I dropped the 3276 driver from ATI and I installed the 3102's . Both seemed to be about equal but I got kicked out of 3d mark 2001 with the 3276's.

I used powerstrip to overclock my Radeon 64 DDR from its 198/198 to 209/209 first, then I went to 218.5/218.5 . Quizno is up at 246/246 and it will probably go higher. These cards will do 250/250 with cooling that is a given....

Next I installed the beta 7530 Win2K drivers to check their performance and voila I see a big performance increase. Scored 3715 in 3dmark 2001 with 209/209 and at the 218.5/218.5 setting I scored 3814.

This seems to be a good driver for those who are running XP. Just looking for thoughts from others. Also where can I buy a blue orb for my Radeon, and where can I find copper ramsinks here in Canada specifically in Vancouver?? Anyone know, cause I may try this route if it is cheap enougfh or I will fab my own stuff. Time to take this card to the moon!!!!!!

Well I overclocked my cpu multiplier and fsb a little. I set my x to 10x and increased fsb to 134 for 1340 mhz.

Next I raised my Radeon 64 DDR vivo to 222.75/222.75 and I ran 3 dmark2001 with side case open. I increased my score again this time hitting 3965. Not too shabby this is a super video card cause I have got a performance gain of 13% over factory 198/198. No artifacting and it was stable. Time to mod this card fer sure

I am using the w2k drivers from radeon's site. The XP drivers wouldn't even run under XP Pro.

Overclocked to 234 (with no artifacts/distortions).

I had some issues with the other drivers either failing the sprite bench on 3dmark 2001 or causing distortions in opengl games (particularly quake 3).

Depending on the alignment of moon and stars I'm getting anywhere between 3550 and 3800 in 3dmark 2001, silky smooth gameplay with everything maxxed at either 800x600 or 1024x768. I also use powerstrip.

ehehe seems like the ATI Radeons are really sweet cards... *shakes his head* should have gotten the ati radeon ddr 32mb LE instead of his expensive Asus v7100

Oni,

Try Pinky's link, here it is though

ftp://speshalk.dyndns.org/_shared%20files/Drivers/RADEON%20drivers/

Let me know how they work out for you. There is also a 7200 W2K driver, wonder how it may perform plus there are the 7184 beta drivers for XP but Pinky said they did not work too well I believe.

I know I can break 4000 in 3dmark2001 if I increase the cards speed. I am really interested in seeing what Quizno can get up to with his modded card. Gameplay is sooooo smooth.

Just need some better cooling and this thing will really rock.

Hey, thx!
Right now my card is at 207/207 from stock 164/164. I think that is a pretty monstrous increase. No artifacting, either.

Well I was just doing some surfing and reading. Good news ATI will release major driver revision for the Radeon series of cards on Oct 25th.

Here is a review of the 7500 and 8500 vs Ti200 and 500. The edge goes to nvidia as we all know cause of the driver issue. Oct 25th will be a big day for ATI. I believe the new drivers will correct alot of the issues and put the performance ahead of nvidia as it is very close.

I have given thought to selling my 64 DDR vivo as futureshop.ca has the 7500 on for a steal of a deal at $199.99 Canadian which is like $130 US WOW but only till Oct 30th.

I wonder if a radeon 64 ddr vivo overclocked and supporting dx8 is a better way to go vs the 7500 which only supports dx7.... hmm give up vivo I dunno, just when I was starting to really figure this card out............:D

Quizno,

Was wondering if you could give me quick run down on how to remove fan and current heatsink off my ddr 64 vivo. Also what did you use for the heatsink on the gpu?? I do like vivo and plan to start using it more to transfer video in from my camcorder , then edit , burn and send some home movies of my kid to the grandparents, this can be done right???

Just soo cheap for the 7500, but I want that WD drive now as well, ya got me going urggg.

But really could use your help on modding my card cause this is a bit new to me as far as messing with the card. PLan to buy a blue orb possibly but are the fans any good?

I decided to enable IIS on my workstation and leave it on for a fews days or until the big server I working on with another site is finished and we all have a better and faster place to download files...

gonna leave it folding too, just to see how many WUs I can get :).

Quizno, me, again LOL,

I see you used old 486 heatsnk. Now I just need to know how you went about mounting it, kinda stumped there. Also given thought to a blue orb, I dig the colour of em, but will it mount on a Radeon??

I will spend a few dollars to mod the card cause I think I may as well keep it before I sell it, and yeah I wanna learn more about using the video in function....

Cisco Kid

beddy bye for me now ..........

To remove that heatsink off the Radeon go play a game and get that thing warmed up. Then pull the card out, grap the heatsink and twist. It'll probably come right off.

Then clean the GPU good. You can mount the new heatsink with Artic Silver Epoxy or you can mount it by putting thermal epoxy of your choice on the card in a circle, leaving the very corners bare. Then put superglue on the bare corners and set the heatsink on and hold it for about 15 minutes.

AS Epoxy don't come off. And it can short things as it is slightly conductive. The super glue method can be removed.

Get a 486 heatsink. The Orb's are cool, but I had to lap my brains out on mine to get it anywhere near flat.

So the heatsink is really only held on by adhesive right now?? Just game and it should twist off, cool. Soon as my balls get big enough I will do it, you mind posting pics of how yours looks. Are you using ram heatsinks at all, I would like to find copper ones somewhere.

thanks

Cisco Kid;)
