It does tax the pc quite a bit, and I think it uses HDR which I don't think works with your card, to me that is the part that looks best, the lighting is great.

I just played it and it looks great I had it max settings 1280x1024 full detail and 4x AA
and it was still very playable. I would post some screens but they're 5mb tga files and don't have any thing to convert that.
Plus they brought back the Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, and Porches which is great :D
I'd rather race a Ferrari than a civic.

Anyone have troubles with the demo jumping around on a dual core system? I had to manually set my affinity to Core0 before the game started working normally. Considering that this will also be released for the XBox360 I would think multicore would be an included feature. Guess not. Hope the fix this before the final release, otherwise one of the nicest racing games I've seen. I especially like the new feel of the crashes.

Honestly I wasn't expecting much, but the graphics are amazing. It blows away the first two and running from the cops is a ton of fun haha sending them into baracades & vehicles haha. It is a arcade driving feel though so the sim guys will hate it but oh well. Can't wait to try other cars out.

I have the steering wheel bug with my Logitech Driving Force wheel (gas and brake pedals won't map in demo). I'm sure this will be fixed with game release or a prompt patch, but it's annoying having to use a button on the wheel for gas and brake. But one reason I always buy Logitech gamepads and steering wheels, you can use Logitech Gaming Software (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/downloads/software/US/EN,CRID=1788,contentid=6203) to force any config you want! Plug in your wheel and launch LGS. Create a new profile for the demo, only mapping ARROW UP (keyboard's gas) to ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOWN, and ARROW DOWN (keyboard brake) to BRAKE DOWN. Then save it and launch the demo through that, and without changing anything in the game's controls you now have gas and brake pedals that work! :)

I'm very disappointed the game still doesn't support widescreen. There is a mod out there for it though: (made for NFSU2, but works with MW just fine)

You'll have to download it and patch the exe file; I'm currently running 1680x1050.

Other than that it seems to be a very exciting game. It has a slightly different feel from NFSU2, I like it. Can't wait to try the full version, I'm sure it's got tons of features not found in the demo. The graphics look great too.

I like the game. Its not something special and it feels like NFSU2, but it rocks. It looks like the tuning options in the game are way better than in NFSU2. For example, the tuned Porsche in the demo looks awesome, very stylish compared to the ricer look of tuned NFSU2 cars. Graphics are not that great, but I like that they finally did something to the crappy looks of traffic in NFSU2, its waaaay better now. Also the shader on the road when the sun is low looks awesome. Too bad the Visual Treatment options ruins all graphics imho, so I keep it on low. It's like the Enhanced Contrast option from NFSU2 which messed up all colors and made the game too dark.

This demo is pretty dope, it give you a real feel for how fast you are going. decent music and excellent graphics. On my sysem I can crank all the settings on max @1024/768 w/o any issues at all

There is a bullet time button like in Max Payne and most recently in Fear, it may sound cheesy but it's actually bad ass.

Speeding through a red light camera @ 120 MPH is a blast. I can't wait for the full version.

i agree i have NO idea why they took out the inside view since nfs: porsche unleashed, and the damage is allllllright but not what i was expecting. the paint damage is probably the most realistic ive seen, but when you ram your car into another at 210mph... you are not going to have JUST paint damage lol well none the less i still cant wait for the retail :santa:

For those of you that are dissing the bad damage modelling...

They do not have realistic damage because the car manufacturers do not let them use realistic damage modelling.

If NFS had realistic damage modelling they would lose all their licenses that they have and you would have to drive around in generic cars that the dev team makes up.

Logitech MOMO Steering Wheel is what I have, got it on eBay with shipping for about $50. Don't buy them from the store, there $100 or more which is a rip but honestly worth it even at that price.

Yeah it is, if you don't have steering wheel handleing I think is is way off. Steering Wheel helps a lot but since it's real arcade like it's unlike anything I play racing sim wise so it takes time to get use too Lol.

Agreed. I especially hate when your stopped by the cops or in a crash and you try to take off, your car seems to have no kind of traction at all. Other than that I love the demo. Graphics are top notch, and gameplay, other than car handling is great. I especially liked the roadblock challenge, pretty fun trying to out run 16 cop cars :D. Preordered the games Black Edition, can't wait until I get it.

Ok it sounds like I'm the only one with this problem...

I can browse the menus all day with no problem. However, either at the end of the loading screen or the first 1-2 seconds of the race, it freezes the whole computer. I first thought it was a problem with my OC so I immediately rebooted and took everything down to stock speeds. No dice, same thing. Thought it was a problem with FRAPs running... that got me past the end of the loading screen (used to freeze on the last second of that wav playing before the race) to the first 2 seconds of the race where the camera is zooming out.

I want to play this game too :(

i really dont even like hdr much, it looks very cool when you come out of a tunnel and it blinds you but overall it makes it pretty hard to see. how do i turn off that stuff but keep on aa/af? these visual bars in nfs are confusing me :shrug:

I had the same problem, make sure that on the config screen you click the arrow on the right so it changes the config from 'keyboard' 'XBOX controller'

The biggest complaint so far. No car damage models. Since the cop cars and civilan cars have damage I can only imagine what an inventative modder can come up with.

You need to launch the vehicle in the blue, otherwise it will do that. It's how people get perfect launches online. Sort of like that in real life too if you redline launch it, although the game is anything but realistic I don't really have that issue.

are shadows a pretty big hit on performance? I'm only running at 1024x768 with a lot of the effects on and it really bogs down performance (usually somewhere in the low 30s). if i turn off shadows what does it actually do, just take out the shadows coming from the cars, or is it from the world objects too. i would much rather have a nice looking car than a mediocre car with shadows.

Shadows are looking like utter crap on my card and I'm assuming that it's something to do with ATI and not having PS 3.0. I haven't really played with shadows too much because of the crap look but the textures have shadow like looks and it still looks pretty good. When I turned the shadows up my frame rate dropped from 'smooth' to 'choppy', so I'm guessing 30+ (maybe 40ish) down to 20ish. But once again ATI doesn't ever like shadows. Just experiment and see what works for you, I like a good balance of performance vs eye candy.

Yeah, I think it's the lack of PS 3.0 . And the same crap excuse for shadows applies to Fable:TLC. Very disappointing to say the least, but I must live with it. This lack of support of non nVidia cards may mean that my future will be with them and no longer ATI, but alas we shall see.

ok ya, if it hasnt already been stated, shadows are a HUGE hit in performance. by turning shadows down from half to none the game still looks insane and it literelly increased my fps by about 35. i have no idea why my card doesnt like shadows but its insane how much more fps there is now.

i personaly think that at first glance the 'none' one looks best, but when you are playing you don't get the interactive shadows you would expect so i recomend medium. as for high... i have no idea why they included such an option- it seems to model the shadows very poorly and are quite low in detail, expecially for the drastic framerate cut. these were taken on my x800xl w/system in sig. turning off shadows = teh savior lol

edit: *note that framerate is in the upper right hand corner and these shots are maximum detail everything cept shadows of course, @ 1024x768 4x 8x (temporal and adaptive aa)

Okay, I've played this demo like a hundred times now, but in the roadblock challenge I still can't figure out how to get a reckless driving infraction. I've crashed into cars, drove on the wrong side of the road, made the trucks with logs spill their logs. How do you get a reckless driving infraction? I can everything else but that.

ya im set, ive just turned off shadows, i cant notice any difference whatsoever and im now playing at all max settings. i pretty much never go below 30 at all now. those shadows were a performance hog and i didnt even notice them!

yes shadows are pointless in driving games unless there are a ton of tree's. most of the time your drving so fast you can't see them.

Shadows do look nice, just not THAT nice that I'd go out and buy a new card. Sometime I should take a few pics of the crap for shadows they game me, then you will all feel my pain. Game still looks great tho!

List looks good, but I don't get the Cobalt SS. It seems a little out of place. VW Golf GTI comes pretty close.

I love this demo. I'm running 1024x768 on highest settings and it never ever goes below 65. I've been doing alot of online play. my record on the 5 mile one is 1:53 already :D

i guess i'm not destined to play the demo....i sure hope the retail comes out much better...i've tried all of their "fixes" tried a few of the members, yet i still can't get things to run longer than 1-2min tops after entering an event...
last i can try is controller removal....but keyboard racing is just too bland and easy with the NFS series.....i beat the whole nfsu game with it easily....

All, I have to say is Wow. Yes, the game is arcadie, and no it doesn't have dashboard views, but other than that it is awesome. I'm impressed. Graphics, gameplay.

I own every Need For Speed including all the "Special Editions", with the exception of the underground series. After the NFS:UG I have up on NFS, but I must say I'm buying this one.

well like i said, i preordered the game from gogamer.com and i still dont think its shipped. when i preordered bf2 from ebgames, it got at my doorstep at 9am the day the game was released. i cant wait for this to come.......

btw, pretty nice looking screenshot for 800x600 but it looks a little dark or something, did you turn down the brightness?

You nVidia guys, what drivers are you running? For some reason, even when I turn shadows off, it freezes about 10minutes into the game. Went back to stock settings, same thing...

you can use fraps, its a free program that measures fps. i believe the site is www.fraps.com try it out!

The brightness is at default so no i aint changed it, thats not bad graphics for a 6200TC at the highest resoloution it still gets 10 FPS.

At 1024*768 i get 15 FPS and i see other people getting only 20 FPS with a 6800NU that has been unlocked?

The game is already waiting for me at home, my brother went out and got it for me. He can be so cool when he wants to. The only problem now is that i'm having serious issues with performance, I think there is a bug somewhere, because it runs just fine on my laptop which I though was incredible.
